Have a Cisco 3560 running extended IP services which im going to connect to an MPLS cloud. The presentation is Ethernet ( 10MB Flex ) with 6MB Cir.

The other end of the link will be responsible for throttling the speed back down if the link is satuated ( obviouly the ethetnet port will be set to 10MB but only having 6MB Bandwidth ). Any way I can ensure only 6MB leaves the ethernet port onto the MPLS rather than relying on throttling from the remote end?

Lee.

With the 3560 & 3750 you have the option to limit the egress bandwidth on an interface directly as opposed to using an egress policer (egress policers aren't supported on these platforms, only ingress ones). To do this you use the interface command 'srr-queue bandwidth limit {weight}' where the weight is expresses as a percentage.
Therefore to limit your interfaces egress bandwidth to 6Mbps you would apply the commands:

interface FastEthernet1/1
speed 10
duplex full !assuming this is what the ISP sets?
srr-queue bandwidth limit 60

It's a shame the egress policing feature from the 3550 wasn't included in the 3560/3750 series as this was a handy feature. Egress policing is available on the 'bigger' platforms.

Hi,

the above changes have been applied, however when I check the QOS Config i get the following

#show mls qos interface fastEthernet 0/1 queueing
FastEthernet0/1
QoS is disabled. When QoS is enabled, following settings will be applied
Egress Priority Queue : disabled
Shaped queue weights (absolute) : 25 0 0 0
Shared queue weights : 25 25 25 25
The port bandwidth limit : 60
The port is mapped to qset : 1

I get the impressing the Bandwidth limit is not active?

You need to enable QOS globally as well....

mls qos

However this may have an undesirable effect on existing traffic depending on the IOS version. This isdue to some of the defaults for the egress queues not being 'optimal' for certain traffic rates & types.

show mls qos queue-set

Hi,

this switch is about to go live tomorrow and I only really need to have the bandwidth reduced on that one port.

I have switched on QoS and now get the following results

FastEthernet0/1
Egress Priority Queue : disabled
Shaped queue weights (absolute) : 25 0 0 0
Shared queue weights : 25 25 25 25
The port bandwidth limit : 60
The port is mapped to qset : 1

So beleieve all is well.

Cheers,again, Lee.
