Just in case anyone else comes across this one. I was able to fix it by booting with NTFSDOS PRO 5. I did a chkdsk and rebooted. Problem solved.

You also can boot with Windows XP setup CD, choose recovery with Recovery Console and run chkdsk.

I would agree with karlisi, but you need to use the right switch. Use chkdsk /r
