    Copy data using LVM

Or you can mirror the volume group onto 2 disks, split the mirror and attach the second copy to your new machine. Something like the following link: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg3T1010934 Look at the "Splitting Off A New Independent Volume Group" section.

    sendmail configuration nightmare

Still banging my head with this one, I've tried defining the DS variable as follows: DS[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] DSmailrelay DSmailrelay.domaim.com DS[mailrelay.domaim.com] Non of the above work and I've got several mails in the out queue that are deferred like so: t5UAWJ8G16253030 0 Tue Jun...

    sendmail configuration nightmare

Hi iggsterman, it turns out that some mails are working, others don't. Whatever I specify as the mailrelay DS value I can't get it to work for certain addresses, which leads me to believe that something is screwy with our DNS (knows about some external addresses but not others). If I can stop...

    sendmail configuration nightmare

Hi, I have an AIX system running 5300-12-05. I'm trying to set up sendmail to forward all mails to a mail-relay host and have the following defined in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf: DS[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] When I try to do a sendmail -v myaddress@mydomain.com I get: mydomain.com: Name server timeout...

    Command line joining multiple lines.

Hi, I need a simple one liner to join lines taken from standard input so I can store this into a variable. Tried a few things but can't get exactly what I need. Any suggestions?\ Thanks,

backing up a LOT of little files

Perhaps some kind of incremental backup system would help? Or possibly look to archive off older files if possible?

You could pipe through 'sort -u' to remove duplicate lines.

    NIM spot install image.data

I'm trying to create the filesystems from the image.data file, not a script.. Can't post the file as it's on a restricted network that I can't access from here...

    NIM spot install image.data

Probably a daft question.. I'm trying to create a few additional filesystems when doing a install from my 5300-06-01 spot (had same problem at 5300-04-00). I've added in the lv_data and fs_data stanza's into the customised image.data. After the lpar has installed, the logical volumes have...

    Etherchannel Jumbo Frames and UDP

Hmm, well I've got my install working over NIM (reverse lookup issues I think..), but now I've found I've got NFS issues along with other problems. I can mount a filesystem from by NIM server, but it takes around 10 seconds to mount. When mounted I can't do an ls within the nfs mounted...

    Etherchannel Jumbo Frames and UDP

Were are running 5300-05-04. Jumbo frames are supported over etherchannel on our switches. tcp settings are: tcp_recvspace = 262144 tcp_sendspace = 262144 rfc1323 = 1

    Etherchannel Jumbo Frames and UDP

Hello, I've configured an etherchannel on my NIM Server using jumbo frames, setting the mtu on the interface to be 9000. Now I can't do NIM installs, I get an error when the system tries to get the bootfile: ERROR: icmp 3 icmp 3 : port unreachable ERROR: icmp 3 icmp 3 : port unreachable...

Virtual Ethernet Speed - how fast is yours?

The Maximum MTU size supported on inter-partition virtual ethernets is 65280... After doing some testing ftp'ing a 10G file between 2 machines I've found the with default settings it takes 100 seconds. To set the higher MTU on the card i've done the following: chdev -l en3 -a mtu=65280 -a...

Virtual Ethernet Speed - how fast is yours?

Interesting, thanks. Do you need to set anything else such as sb_max, or tcp_recvspace/tcp_sendspace on the interface? Would you use a 9000 MTU on the VIO servers SEA? My SEA's are linked through etherchannel adapters... I'm also looking at setting up Jumbo Frames on some standard...

Virtual Ethernet Speed - how fast is yours?

Jumbo frames isn't an option on my virtual ethernet adapters. Never used Jumbo Frames but I thought it was set against the ethernet adapter. We are at ioslevel 1.3.0.1 FixPack 8.1

Virtual Ethernet Speed - how fast is yours?

I'm doing some copies over virtual ethernet and only get around 4Gb per minute, coping a 350G oracle database. This doesn't seem that fast. Anyone got it working faster? cheers, John

VIO Server chdate timezone with daylight saving.

I logged a call with IBM. They told me to either set the MAXTZLEN variable to 256 before setting the timezone, or use the chtz command. Setting the variable didn't work....
