Well if I use DHCP class ids I can hand out ip addresses based on a network card's class id. I would create a script and configure those computers used by admins to have a class id called admin. Then deploy the script through AD and computer logon. When is asks the DHCP server for an address...
Objective of St Mary’s Tech Plan 2005-2008
1) Gigabit Backbone-fiber optics
2) Teacher Training
3) LCD’s in more rooms
4) Discovery Channel Service
5) Full T1-Internet Connection
Here at the high school I'm planning to have two full T-1 lines installed. One for administration computers and...
I was just about to post the same question. I currently use Remote Desktop to connect to my server at the office and tsweb services when I'm on machines that don't have remote desktop installed.
I know this can't be secure. I am planning on getting an ISA 2004 server very soon to do some VPN...
So you have two WAN connections at each site. One that's private and the other thats connected and open to the net. Which router or gateway is your default on each network. The Internet routers?
Also, 192.168.x.x is a routable address locally but not on the net because no public ip address...
So whats happening here is that he has a private WAN between sites without DNS. So his routers at both sites have their external addresses on the same network and their local addresses on a different networks. Rip is enabled in the routers to pass packets from the 192.168.x.x network to the...
Had the same problem I think. I basically setup an IPSec policy that turned my DC into a secure server. Very very stupid of me. I couldn't get rid of the policy even after I deleted it and the DC could not contact the other DC which is the PDC which has the group policy that this DC syncs...
If you ever run into any problems with SMS Client installing on a workstation make sure you run cclean.exe which comes with SMS 2003 Took Kit. That thing saved my ass a few times.

I what I mean is this.
I have to distribute IP addresses to a subnet such as 10.5.x.x
and its subnet mask is 255.255.128.0. If I then setup a scope on my DHCP server to hand out address based on the following segment: 10.5.0.1 to 10.5.10.255 with a subnet mask of 255.255.128.0 This would...
Well for some reason this DC used to be a WINS server as well as a DC. I know this is a mistake and I had disabled this feature months ago. So maybe this is just some old info that showed up after a reboot. But since I posted the original thread.

I haven't seen that problem in a while on my DC's and I've restart them both a few times since I posted this message. What I did notice was a lot of old DNS records that had multiple IP address pointing to the same address (Host A Records). All has been quite since.

What is DHCP scope functionality? I think I understand them to be a way to break up a larger subnet to manage which computer contacts which gateway and DNS server on the subnet.
Also, if this is there purpose, does the DHCP server distribute both scope address at the same time or when one runs...
3Com Gigabit Fiber-SX Server NIC #3C996-SX or if you know any that does the job well but costs less please tell me.
Oh the computer that its going in will be a ISA server connecting to the master switch in another building.
Thanks,
Anthony
I was wondering if PCI Fiber cards work well with Windows Server 2003. Also, when they are installed, can I configure them like a NIC card.
I.E. Assign an IP address and gateway information to it.
Thanks
Anthony
I'm was not thinking right. I was trying to do something that's impossible. Two subnets on the same pyshical network. The scope option in a DHCP server is further way to break down a larger subnet, am I right? Other wise I don't know why even have it.
Take care all,
Anthony
Update..
Ok I create a super scope and place both subnet scopes under it. And I got the admin and student ID Classes to work, however If I set one scope to check for the student class and the other for the admin class and no default for either, The client machine would just randomly pick one...
Ok I'm testing this out and well let's see
I created a new scope for a new subnet 10.5.18.x/24
I disabled the other scope which was 10.5.17.x/24
The ip address of the DHCP server is 10.5.17.1
On a client machine I did ipconfig /release and then /ipconfig /renew and set the class id up to...
