I agree a little knowledge 'is' a dangerous thing and can unfortunately strain client relationships if not used wisely, as I am sure you will agree.
We have a client who has a small network and windows 2000 Server. Their local domain name is the same as their web address without the www prefix.
We set up a forwarder in DNS for the "www" aspect which was all working well for a while. It then stopped working and the only temporary solution...
