When I insert a DVD the computer reboots itself!

It may also be worth noting that after the system reboots, less than half of my system tray icons are displayed, even though they are loaded. This is fixed by a log off and back on

When I insert a DVD the computer reboots itself!

The problem has returned. I changed nothing. I don't understand it. The problem seems to be irrespective of drive setup. It must have been a coincedince that the problem stopped.

When I insert a DVD the computer reboots itself!

No jumpers are fine. I build computers for a living - there was nothing wrong with the setup. I have tried changing the setup back to how it was (with the CD burner as a slave to the DVD-ROM and the DVD-RW seperate) and it now works. Just a computer having a mind of its own!

    Pavillion not starting at all

Depending on the model, the board may have a RAM LED. If it does, and it is not lighting up, it may well be the power supply. I have known a number of Pavillion PSUs to give up after not being used for awhile

Advice on new PC spec (self-build)

I would suggest having a look at the Kingston HyperX RAM. It is designed for high performance gaming, and while a little dearer, the performance makes it worthwhile.

New PSU in emachine, only emachine logo displays

Why did you replace the power supply? Was the old one faulty? Is it possible that the old power supply damaged some components?

When I insert a DVD the computer reboots itself!

Well I don't know exactly why, but by running the drive as a master without a slave fixed the problem. Weird, but at least it's working now. Thanks everyone for your help!

When I insert a DVD the computer reboots itself!

okay, thanks. I'll give that a go. I don't remember exactly when the problem started, but it may have been around the time of my new motherboard or even my new video card.

When I insert a DVD the computer reboots itself!

I tried disconnecting virtually every non-essential device so the power supply should have plenty left, but still the same result. I tried changing DVD drives - same result. However, this time I received some listings in the event viewer. They don't mean much to me, so I'll paste all events in...

When I insert a DVD the computer reboots itself!

I would have thought so, however, there are no listings in the event viewer that correlate to the times of the restarts. I am really at a loss on this one. Thanks guys for all your ideas, I'm sure we'll get there eventually!

When I insert a DVD the computer reboots itself!

I only replaced the power supply a week ago. I was running a 350W, and now I'm running a 400w. It should be plenty! I had the problem with both PSU's.

When I insert a DVD the computer reboots itself!

Automatically restart has already been turned off, yet it continues. That's why it doesn't make much sense to me. I'll also add that autorun / autoinsert notification are disabled also.

When I insert a DVD the computer reboots itself!

No, I know better than to go near Zone Alarm. I will also add that this problem started under SP1, but installing SP2 had no effect. Other than this, my computer is running extremely well. The only other problem I have is a few incompatabilities with my video drivers (for Asus V9520 Video...

Yes this is dumb and sometimes useless but many people dont know how!

Yes, but many people like myslef rely on the messenger service to utilise instant messaging through networks. Since SP2 this service is disabled, and I have to manually start it every time I reboot. Anyone know how to make this change permanent?

When I insert a DVD the computer reboots itself!

I have a problem with my Windows XP Pro system. Every time I put a DVD into the drive, the computer reboots, and then brings up a message "The system has recovered from a serious error". This used to only occur with original DVD's, but now it does it with all. It is irrespective of which dvd...
