You are trying to download a file from the remote server?
If so, then replace mput thefileiwant.txt with get thefileiwant.txt in the script file.

My first job would be to boot from a Live Linux distro and copy the files that you haven't backed up onto a USB stick or other external drive.
Then attempt recovery, probably before ending up reinstalling XP anyway.

If the password is unknown and the disk is encrypted, then you've go a problem!
Otherwise, check out the likes of Norton Ghost (if you to pay) or CloneZilla (free)

An OCX or DLL file is either missing or requires registering. Is there a .DEP file associated with the app? This might list the dependencies if you are lucky.

Does the screen appear if you move the mouse?
If it does, then check the screen-saver interval - I saw a similar issue and the screensaver was set to appear after zero minutes.

I'm currently having a similar problem with an Acer monitor, but with a desktop. Monitors native resolution is 1680x1050, but it wouldn't display this with a new Windows 7 PC - only 1600x1200 - which looked blurred.
I discovered it was due to the vga cable! If I use one with ALL 15 pins...
