Thanks Ace,
This is not going to be easy from a guy that has never used Access to do upgrades but that is the job I have been given.
i.e. I don't yet know what a reference is (beyond the obvious).
Anyway, I'm running around helping out with Lotus Notes upgrades and when done Access will be...
I have little to now knowledge yet have been asked to convert many (of varying sizes) Access 97 databases to Access 2k.
The powers that be refused to reasearch an alternative or pay for updated software on the new PC's that have just been deployed.
I shall look for Microsofts instructions...
I mostly lurk as I am just starting in the field and I am technically weak, but I noticed no one has responded yet so I thought I'd throw this bit out.
Have you copied the database (renamed it to be safe) and attempted to convert it?
There are instructions to do just that from Microsoft...
Joamon, thanks, common sense helped me figure that one out on day one. Very important indeed, maybe a contributing factor as to why they are under the impression I can actually do this. :) Another is that I have never exaggerated my ability. I have been straight with them and also let them know...
Just curious why it needs exchange to run. One day our exchange server shut down (ran out of room) and we lost VOIP.
Just another attempt to learn all I can Thanks!
Remember, this is probably my 4th post. I was thrust into an IT position I am not qualified for yet my boss knows it and everyone...
I have a very small office w/3 pc's.
2 (xp pro) are sharing files from a w2k (not server) pc that is somewhat of a psudo server that's in a air conditioned storage rm.
file sharing is not as fast as it should be and people here once told me to upgrade the hardware in the w2k machine to...
I know that if you clr mbr C: you can fix it by format mbr C:
But can it somehow be done on a floppy?
I accidently "quick formatted" a floppy and I now need it back the way it was.
It happens to be disk 1 of 2 of a program that I will need tomorrow.
any Ideas???
Drew,
I'll bet almost anything the PCU is fine.
I aggree that if your new processor is a Tualatin you will be out of luck unless the new BIOS has support for it.
The last test it to properly flash the new BIOS (I'd do this before loading the OS, to save time/effort if it doesn't work out).
After...
Get this... my neighbor followed the hard drive instructions given w/his old Gateway for the new "Hitachi" drive.
Jumpers were in the wrong place. I pulled it out (no jumpers=master) and booted. This time I went from 1.55 to 36GB (drive is actually 60GB). I looked at it more closely and there...
I am using their fasttrak 2000pro kit and I am pleased with it so far (small office-one part of back up solution).
Anyway, I am not sure how to set up and use the PAM monitoring software. Their online manual is leaving a lot to be desired.
I would simply like to have notification that a drive...
I am not sure of the year but I will be loking at it sometime tonight.
It's a PIII 750 so I assume it sees over 2gb I'd guess his original drive is 20gb.
It shows 1.65gb in XP Home (he upgraded to xp from 98SE a few months ago).
I checked with Gateway Support and there is a BIOS upgrade but...
He has a gateway (forget model-written it down at home) PC, and he tells me he just installed an 80gb drive in addition to what he has.
It shows up as a 1.65gb drive.
I would like to help him but not take a couple trips/days to do it.
How should I approach the diagnosis?
thinking I should first...
I am using Symantecs removal tool and under my admin profile or his the tool comes up with no virus found.
In Outlook there is a reply to an e-mail he never actually sent indicating that it was blocked because it found the NetSky W32.Netsky.P@mm!enc virus.
Can I assume he sent a virus or is...
Thanks all for the input!
It looks like they are scaling down a bit. It's much cheaper to let a few go that have been here for years (through the internet boom) and start over with some one like myself who is getting paid much less (I don't yet care about the pay...happy to be here).
It...
Thanks for the advice!, exactly what I was looking for.
Why IT?, I helped my wife get through dental school because at the time her career path was more sound. Soon afterward, we were married, moved away, had two kids (4 & 6 now).
I worked in facilities supporting 3 sites and 7 buildings (some...
I recently changed careers deciding to do what I want as opposed to what I need to do, anyway...
I got a position in an IT dept. supporting 200 people locally, 50 or so V.P.'s remotely all in a W2k environment.
Boss's thinking is that he is tired of hiring someone only to have them leave soon...

Ok...every once in a while most of us Windows users find it necessary to start over.
"And save the bits that you want to keep, then use your windows 98 cd to do a reformat, which provides you with a fresh install."
By this he means erasing the hard drive and reinstalling Win98SE...
I'm not ruling out a powersupply but I think we are barking up the wrong tree.
Earlier Compaq systems using Athlon m/b's come with anything from 135W-250W only.
So the PS could be faulty but not by not supplying enough current, especially with all peripherials removed.
I have been in this exact...
