Hi Nick-
thanks for the response.
my nslookup does work and i don't get the "peer name unknown". though i do get a syntax error when i do the "mail from:<me@mydomain.com>" command.
MCI created a pointer to the IP that my mail server is supposedly originating from. So I'm not getting the AOL...
my router is managed by mci. the ip is registered to uunet, which i think is an mci parnter (?).
i have a dual nic server that is my mail server, so maybe it's originating from the wrong interface?
thanks llevon-
i don't use any spam or mail services other than norton.
here's the ip:
208.251.110.195
it shows the owner as UUnet.
Isn't UUnet partners with MCI? MCI is my ISP.
hello-
when I send mail from my exchange the source IP in the header is a different IP than my mail server's public IP.
I can ping my mail server's DNS name and also public IP address and get a proper response. So I'm wondering where the source IP address is coming from on the header.
thanks...
Just got a response from MCI. My mail server is resolving to a different IP- not sure why. He went ahead and added a PTR record for that IP.
When I PING my mail server's dns name it gives the correct IP.
So why is my connection from my mail server coming from a different IP?
MCI created the reverse DNS PTR records for my domain over a week ago, but I'm still getting the same problem. I assume they created a record for my MX record- is that correct?
i booted the server with both cards installed, but the drives attached to the original card. then i shut it down and attached the drives to the new card and it booted up just fine.
thanks poppaman and technome.

i just tried installing the driver via a repair, no luck. again it gets to the windows server splash screen for a few seconds, then gives a quick blue screen, then reboots.
i noticed that when it lists the scsi devices it doesn't list the scsi card (which is id 7).
i replaced an Adaptec 2940 and put in an Adaptec 29160. when i booted it up it gave me the "insufficient termination detected on the .... connector"
the "..." is off the screen so i can't tell if it says "LVD/SE" or just "SE". I assume it's "SE" as I have an HP tape drive attached to the 50 pin...
yeah, i think it's power supply as well. when it does shut off after trying to write to the disk, i can't turn it back on for about 15 minutes.
and i can't get into event viewer, as it stops at windows registration. (don't have proper key)
i was handed a build-it-yourself pc and i can't figure out exactly what is wrong. i'm booting off an xp cd to install it and when it hits the point of writing to the hd (hit "enter" to install xp, then it looks for another copy of xp on the hd...) the power shuts off. i've tried different ide...
hello-
i'm wondering how to analyze some email headers of some recent spam that my boss is getting. he wasn't getting very much until about a month ago. i moved another site i have to Postini filtering and still had spam come through, as i think they were attaching to my mail server by it's ip...
well since i have no time for testing, i'm pushing for a dual processor machine. maybe i'll get a dual core soon to test out in my spare time, if there is such a thing.
thanks for all the responses. i learned some new things.
