how to exclude SQL from backup

Sorry for the delay in follow up... This is a VSS issue. With 7.4.2, licensing has changed so that you no longer need a VSS license to backup the additional VSS savesets from all the writers available on that particular client. In this case, you are backing up the SQL database using the...

how to exclude SQL from backup

Sounds like the VSS writer is backing up the database as part of the regular client backup. You need to disable the VSS writer for MSDE on the client properties VSS:MSDEWriter=off

    Problem adding 3584 library

Great, thanks for the help! when do I run smitty? is that after cfgmgr sees the devices?

    Problem adding 3584 library

no, from a symmetrix. What I'm trying to do is prove that the problem is in the VTL not on the server. I've got VTL support saying it looks ok, but my server doesn't see it. I'm not an AIX admin, I'm just trying to determine if I'm performing the correct steps to see this library. i.e...

    Problem adding 3584 library

Fibre attached via SAN. lsdev sees the adaptors and I can see other luns presented to them.

    Problem adding 3584 library

OK, tried that and I don't see anything about smc or rmt devices. Does that mean that the server is not seeing the libraries presented to it. (as if they were un-zoned, or un-presented)?

    Problem adding 3584 library

I tend to think that this may be an issue with the VTL, however what I'd really like to know is the process for detecting and adding this library. If I'm correct in the process, then I can address this with the VTL support, but right now everything looks correct on that end. Was there anything...

    Problem adding 3584 library

:-) I appreciate the dummy suggestion, I wish that was the case... Yes library is on and presented to the host. It's a virtual library, so presentation is really the only control and I have verified that. thank you though.

    Problem adding 3584 library

I'm adding a 3584 Virtual tape library to the system. Library was previously installed and working, then we had an issue with the VTL which requires me to remove and re-add it. I didnt' install it the first time, and I'm somewhat new to AIX... I removed the library and 4 drives through...

Setup NW 7.3.2 with EDL 4400

I've done a few, shouldn't have any issues. A lot depends on OS, config, and what you're emulating.

    Tough one... nwadmin with 7.3.3

I have a purely Irix env. Networker Server is supported on Irix, however the NMC is not. I believe that I can use nwadmin from 7.2.2 to manage this in addition to nsrwatch for monitoring. What do I need to copy over in addition to the nwadmin binary? I tested this on windows and I needed...

    computer accounts are being deleted!

jimthecanadian: We do use Ghost and Altiris but we always run a SID changer to avoid this type of issue. markdmac: I ended up finding the "bad" DC listed several places in DNS. I deleted all listings of it. Now I just have to wait and see if that resolves my problems. Thaks for your input.

    computer accounts are being deleted!

All the DCs are 2003 with the latest updates. Another thing I should say is that we can look on one DC and the account is gone. If we look on another it's there.

    computer accounts are being deleted!

Also, I should add that when we remove the PC from the domain and add it back it seems fine for a few reboots but then is unable to login again.

    computer accounts are being deleted!

We're having this same problem. I looked at your document and it seems to only indicate how to remove a bad DC. We did have one and have since removed it yet we're still having the problem. Is there anything else that you recommend?

How to move where index is stored.

Correct you are. This was strange though, because I had two clients for this server, I was using only one and on that one the field on the index tab was blank. It was only on the client that I wasn't using that this tab contained the incorrect data. I assume that this is due to them having...
