Hi guys,
As theres no TREND section - i am posting here, rightly or wrongly.
Basically, since upgrading our Office Scan v7.3 to v8.0 - our servers our dying overnight.
I'm sure it can't just be us thats having this problem - if anyone else is having similar issues, please let me know.
Thanks!
I have found the solution
1. Start with a profile that logs directly onto the other user's mailbox,
not your own.
2. On the Properties dialog for the other user's Contacts folder, make sure
that it's set to display in the Outlook Address Book and give it a display
name other than contacts...
We use Exchange 2003, and Office 2003, with Windows XP on desktops.
We have a secretary who works for one of our "partners" (Joe Bloggs).
In Outlook 2003 - Joe Blogg's contacts used to appear as an address book in her Outlook profile, so she could email HIS contacts.
I have reset up her...

On further investigation, the IE thing is out the question - that has to be for very small companies, or for parents controlling there kids machines.
I think, our best option is to force DNS or GATEWAY addresses to our IP's.
BUT its NIC dependant - so every NIC card has a different windows...
we have device control software - so they cannot use any devices unless approved - and they certainly DONT have admin rights.
i think forcing DNS or Gateway entries static to our Companies ISP's should do the trick
i will have a look at that IE thing - thanks cdogg
we already have a policy in place.
but in the real world - are you really going to sack a good member of staff thats pulling in a lot of fees for the company>? no.
Hi there,
We'd like to lockdown our office laptops, so that they cannot be used to browse the internet.
They are currently plugging them into their own routers at home to surf the net.
Which of course is a big security risk from our (IT) point of view.
Is it possible to do this?
Thanks!
regarding flash in IE - we use a program called SURFCONTROL WEBFILTER - and only let IT admins and Directors access flash websites = this is why we've matched the Flash8.ocx file permissions to Surfcontrol's permissions.
lol YES it stops all flash mate!!!!
depending on how u permission it.
we've allowed only IT Admins, and our Directors FLASH access through this method.
to add further - this can be done via AD \ GPO.
create an OU in AD, called deny shockwave or something, then put the computers into this OU.
create and link a GPO to this OU with this criteria:
COMPUTER CONFIGURATION\WINDOWS SETTINGS\SECURITY SETTINGS\FILE SYSTEM\ then add the...
i have come up with a crude way to stop this:
the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash8b.ocx
controls flash - if you rename this file, or change the permission globally on it to only certain users (directors, admins etc only)
this will work.
I have just fitted a RAID card to my Windows XP system to replace the previous boot controller (previously IDE)
Now I have the problem that Windows doesn't boot, as Windows obviously doesn't know about the card.
So, I have to somehow inject the driver into Windows XP and tell it to use it...
thanks for your help mate!
ive now eliminated the cache, by deleting the old one, and letting ISA create a new one - problem still happening.
ISA is doing something to the URL....
Its just that one website mate.
Yeah i get the same IP. So does that rule out DNS?
I havent flushed the ISA cache yet! Do you think this is the problem?
Thanks!!
We have a URL that changes when you either hit return or go.
It only happens on our proxied PC's.
The url is:
http://www.icc-aquila.co.uk/aquila
When you click on GO or hit return the link changes to:
http://%20www.icc-aquila.co.ukuk/aquila/
(Note the %20 and the double uk entry.)
Could...
