You could check if there are any corrupt temp files in the printer spools folder, deleting all files in this folder can release the printer but you will lose all of the print jobs currently queued.
Also, just recalled that Xerox US are advertising free black ink for a year with a new Phaser 8200 - the dealers should also support this I would imagine.
