Hi,
Scenario: company with 3 distinct groups that require access to 3 distinct domains on 3 different subnets (LAN and WAN). These users need to be able to go to any terminal in the building and based on a pre-configured RDP connector connect with their respective subnet/domain. Using terminal...
Hi,
Sorry for what might be a stupid question, but is there a procedure for disabling POP3 receive? Is it something that you do on Exchange, in AD, or in Outlook 2003? Could you provide some insight or details?
Thanks...
Gotcha - thanks, that makes sense. I did recently read something about the potential for intrusion due to the way that some providers provision the PVCs - any thoughts on this?
Thanks again...

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the primer - had already seen that and unfortunately doesn't really answer my question. I need some insight on how FR is different than the standard IP network - why would a FR circuit not need data security over the wire vs. a similarly constructed circuit over an IP...
Hi,
Not a WAN networking guy so I am looking for some "layman's terms" in what I'm asking. As part of a term project, I need to assist in the design of a multi-site WAN using Cisco routers, PIX, switches, etc. My group has settled on using Frame Relay for the sites that are outside of the U.S...
Hi,
ISA 2006 Std in front of OWA 2003 and SharePoint v3. Trying to use a single listener for both published resources and use different forms, set at the rule level. I set the OWA rule to use the Exchange forms but when I log on, all I get is the standard ISA logon form. The only way I can get...
Hi,
ISA 2006 - we have 2 email domains and are trying to phase one of them out - I want to be able to redirect OWA users who type https://mail.domain1.biz to mail https://mail.domain2.com but in such a manner that the certificate for domain1 never comes into play.
The main reason is that we...
Hi,
Thanks for your reply - if that is possible, I'm not sure how to do it. I do notice AutoEnrollment errors on the clients when this issue occurs but I'm not sure if its a result of being off network too long or because there is no network connection.
Hi,
Having this problem on a fairly frequent basis - XPSP2 clients w/ 3Com OfficeConnect USB wireless adapters. Wireless settings (preferred networks, 802.1x, etc) all controlled via GPO on OU that computers reside in and no higher level wireless policies.
Whenever the IAS boxes are rebooted...
Hi,
Have an app that downloads a small component each time the user attempts a connection. I would like to increase the security on this app by requiring a client certificate - computers so configured can proceed to user authentication (username / password) and then do the download, others are...
Hi,
W2K3 AD domain - looking for software or techniques to enable monitoring for (and alerting when) domain users change their network password. I am not looking to see what they change their passwords to, only to receive a notification that an attempt to change a user's password has been...
Thanks for the quick reply,
I'm not sure - that looks like it queries a computer for its list of hotfixes (probably reading from the registry). The problem is that old hotfix information stays in the registry even if the hotfix has been superseded by a newer hotfix. New computers being...
Hi,
Maybe not the right forum but starting here - we have VPN solution that uses a home-grown end point security component. The EPS checks for running AV, anti-spyware, services, and hotfixes before allowing a VPN connection to occur.
The hotfixes component is becoming problematic do to the...
Yeah, I agree - the problem is if I delete the user's roaming profile then all is well so I'm guessing that it's an issue within the server-stored profile.
Doing a night shift tonight to look through everything - we'll see.
Thanks...
Hi,
W2K3 domain, 150 users using both Folder Redirection and RUPs. As part of a network upgrade, did the following:
- Moved profile data from old file server to new file server using ROBOCOPY.
- Implemented Dfs
- Changed the Profile path in AD for all users
Everything appeared to work fine...
I figured that you could do it - I'm wondering if it matters that our 2nd WAN link is on a different subnet...
Thanks for the example - I'll be calling them back with this information to see what they have to say...
Hi,
We host our own mail and provide our external users access via web mail. Our DNS records for the mail system are hosted by our ISP. External users are able to type "mail.domainname.com" to access their email.
We recently added a 2nd WAN connection from a different provider in order to...
Thanks tfg13 - I have seen that doc before.
As far as something "caught" - I don't know what else he might have played with in the past - I'm going out to his site tonight and will run a sniffer to see if there is anything really of interest going on. The only thing that he currently has...
Hi,
Was asked to look at syslog data for a previous client's W2K3 domain as part of a random secuirty audit (doing a favor for a friend). In his syslog I noticed something odd; one of his W2K3 SP1 file servers was intermittantly trying to communicate over ports 139/445 with the IP segment of...
Thanks for all the info - the decision has been made to give a week's notice to these guys and then "pull the plug" so problem solved (sort of).
Thanks again...
