Mounting Leopard Network Volume onto Tiger

Check the firewall and sharing settings on the Leopard machine. System Preferences -> Sharing -> file sharing (make sure it's checked) System Preferences -> Security -> Firewall -> Allow All. If "Allow All" fixes the problem, you'll have to experiment to see if you can tighten things back...

Leopard: Where is iPhone & iLife?

PCinfoman - it's probably easiest to spend the $80 to get iLife. As you heard, iLife ships with new Macs but if you want a newer version you have to buy it.

    mac mail

Wouldn't the options to create mailboxes be in the "mailbox" menu? Select the mailbox for the account you want to create extra mailboxes for. That should let you create new mailboxes.

    hard dual availability

willif - I played with this a bit the other week. TimeMachine won't use FAT32 directly. What will happen is that TimeMachine will create a DMG on the FAT32 drive. It will then run extremely slowly. Extremely. Slowly. I was only getting a few gigabytes an hour out of it - which doesn't sound...

OS 10.4 - Two Windows Folders from Same Share

    1. What happens if you eject your own share first? 2. Are you specifying the share name in the connection dialog, or just the server? Worst case, try using the Terminal and the mount_smbfs command to connect via the command line.

    Apple Safari

Are you sure you're running 10.4.9? It sounds very much like you're running 10.3.9 - which was the last release of Panther.

    Tape drive backup

As I see it, people have pretty much abandoned tape backup in lieu of removeable hard drives.

Using Apache 2, Perl, PHP in Mac OS X Leopard

Yes, the MySQL website has an installer for Mac. I haven't used it with Leopard, but it worked fine with Tiger.

    Apple Safari

If you're a determined sort, you can search through the install disks for your machine and find the package file that contains it - you'd have to do a lot of digging, though.

    external drive not showing up

That is very weird; but permissions shouldn't keep you from mounting the disk at all. I know it says that you don't need to repair the disk, but I guess the next steps are: 1. Use "Repair" on Disk Utility. 2. Buy or Borrow a copy of Tech-Tool Pro and try that. 3. If those two don't work, give...

    external drive not showing up

You missed a backslash. Since there's a space in the name of the volume you have to be careful when typing it into the terminal. open /Volumes/Nichols\ Backup Alternately, use double quotes: open "/Volumes/Nichols Backup"

    custom cutting

I'm pretty sure you don't want to ask this in a forum for operating systems.

    external drive not showing up

... Are you kidding? Look in your Applications/Utilities folder.

    external drive not showing up

Open a terminal and type open /Volumes/Nichols\ Backup it should appear in the finder then.

OS X Address Book and LDAP

    > To get it to work I used Directory Access (in Applications/Utilities) to configure Active Directory and LDAP then the directory seemed to show up in Address book. The problem with that is it requires network administrator rights and the netadmin has to add your machine to the active...

New to Mac - How to image

Update - just a reminder, you have to use a Firewire drive, not USB.

OS X Address Book and LDAP

imeldesign, That was excellent. I've looked for years for the way to connect my address book to an Exchange server without success. 60 seconds after I read your post, I was in. w00t!

New to Mac - How to image

MediaInfo, It's been a while since I used Remote Desktop, but I don't remember it supporting images. What we used is a free software package called "Carbon Copy Cloner" to duplicate removable drives on XServes. The procedure I would suggest would be: 1. Get a large external harddrive...

    Digital Camera Not Reconised

Absolutely basic USB question: Plug the camera into your Mac and turn on the camera. Go to the Apple menu and select "About this Mac". From the "About this Mac" dialog box, select "More Info". An application will run that will display a hardware profile. Is your camera listed under "USB"? If...

    Leopard's Apache ignoring httpd.conf

I don't have Leopard yet, but I know that some Apache installs use multiple http conf files in sub-directories. Tiger did this a bit with individual website config files in /etc/httpd/users/. I'd look around /etc/httpd to see if you can find the correct spot. Actually, even in Tiger, I wouldn't...
