We found a fix.
CA have released additional patches for Arcserve 2000.

I installed SP5 QO49312 and quite a few tape library problems seem to have been fixed.
Hope this helps others.
Hi All
Having some drama with ArcServ 2000.
The setup is Proliant DL 380
Library is a Compaq TL891 DLX (two 40/80 DLT's)
Arcserv 2000 was backed up to another server and Windows 2000 patches where applied. Then Arcserv 11 was installed but didn't find the tape library as mentioned above but...
Hi All
I have just been handed a PIX 515 (no FDD support) firewall from a company we took over a few years back.
Since no one is left from the firm I don't have the passwords.
I am looking at resetting it to factory defaults so I can use it for other tasks.
But I require the IP address of...
Sorry David if it didn't make sense.
It wasn't a reply just another bit of info.
To answer your questions and suggestions. No other drivers are loaded. HP scanning agent is not loaded and Windows drivers are disabled. Both drives can be seen under the controller (indented).
I used auto...
Sounds like an Ad for Veritas to me. Nightwatch you getting a kickback ;-)
To be honest the trouble I have had with Arcserv and multi drive tape libraries I too am looking for an alternative. I have used both Backup Exec and Arcserv in single drive setups and both work well. I do however prefer...
Try using the Restore Wizard.
I had this problem once where I couldn't restore as you mentioned above, however it was with an older tape.
Also check that your patches are up to date !
David
Thanks for that, however;
I have had three Compaq Techs look at the tape server and my SCSI and Server setups and all agree it is OK.
I can erase and format etc but cannot retension a tape. The option is greyed out. I don't think this is as major an issue to my orginal question.
I am having this same problem with 2000. We are also running the TL891.
The work around is to force the job to a tape. Again with the problem you mentioned above of the tape running out, however sometimes it will go onto the next tape !
And to think I thought updating to BS9 would fix the woes :(
Ideally have arcserv 2K on another server that you can fall back on.. But if you can't.
Load the server first.
Don't use the open file agents for Notes just run the back up grabbing the nsf's you need from your data directory.
Update the SQL agents as they are prob. mission critical. This way...
All firmware levels look good. However prior to swap out the problem also existed.
I had a look last night and the tape is ejecting but NOT going to the next available tape ?
So the issue is the device goes through tapes filling one at a time. It stops at a tape at random once filled, then...
Hi All,
We are running ARCserv 2000 on Win 2K.
The server is a Compaq DL380 and the drive a Compaq DLT890DLT library.
All relavant ARCServ patches and updates have been applied. The firm ware on the SCSI card up to date, Tape drives and boards have been updated and replaced due to a recall...
The fact that you got LINUX backups is impressive. aRCServ reckon that there software doesn't support this. Or so my email from them says.
ARCServ has real trouble with symbolic links.
Ensure you are running SAMBA and are restoring to the share rather than a link.
If worse comes to worse...
Just had the Compaq Tech out to see our troublesome autoloader library.
Turns out theres a known problem with the DLT drives and a board inside some units.
The problem we expirenced was the constant asking for cleaning tapes, even after swapping tapes and cleaning tapes.
If your expirencing...
Had something simliar with R5 Domino server.
I found that NOT using the open file agents was the work around.
Basically I just selected the *.nsf to back up and away it went.
Sounds dodgey I know but haven't had a failure yet.
I have found that SP4 requires you to reinstall the CA patches...
LINUX backup agents ?
Which flavour of LINUX ?
We are having problems with Redhat8 and ARCserv and are told there is no support.
To help you with your problem are these symbolic links or the actual files ? If there links you've only backed them up .. NOT your files.
Quick tip.
If you can't find the job ID then open each of the jobs in Note Pad. ( As described in the above directory ).
The first line of the job will be the description of the job =-)
NO WAY. This is the first time(job) I've used ARCServ 2000 and the last.
I've used Backup Exec before and will look to migrate to it.
I've done it to all other sites where the support lic has run out and haven't look back.
Sorry but the thing is just too unreliable in my enviroment.
I am now also starting to get the same problem even after having installed all the patches.
This is my workaround to resolve it.
Find the last tape that has data on it. I did this by doing the quick math of how much each tape holds and counting the number of tapes. Do a restore of this tape...
