I am running SMS 2003 SP3. I can connect and enumerate nodes in console for only so long. Then my WMI connection is dropped (If you look at my original post). I can connect to that WMI namespace using WBEMTEST in Vista with no problem. I do not have this problem with XP.

I have already been through that doc. I will open a ticket with MS when I get a chance. The console seems to work for 5 minutes or so then it drops my WMI connection after a period of inactivity.

Is anyone else having a problem with the console or similar or is it just me?

The only way to do this would be to extend the SMS Hardware inventory by modifying the sms_def.mof. I haven't done it with things like printers or network drives but have done it with other information successfully.

When creating a new program, you can limit which client platforms the program can run on. Since SP2 has been released, Server 2003 SP2 and Vista have also been released. Is there a patch out there where I can add these OS levels? I know I can install SP3 but am not planning on doing there...

They don't have to be part of the domain. They can be part of a work group however there is an extra step you must do. You have to publish your SLP and MP to WINS. Plus you have to find a way to get the client on the machines. http://www.myitforum.com/articles/8/view.asp?id=7323

Extended Software Update came as a mof update I believe with SMS 2003 SP1. When you view resource explorer for a machine, do you see that listed? What service pack for SMS 2003 are you running?

Insert the SMS CD and walk through the install wizard. When it prompts you for what to install, choose SMS Admin Console.

I have never seen that before. Does the machine appear twice in the all systems collection? Maybe one of the records is valid and the other is decommissioned. Do you have full rights within SMS?
