Quincelady,
If you are referring to the "ALT" key on your keyboard, the "Option" key for Macs would be analogous to the "Windows" key. That is, it is two keys either side of your Space bar.
One other thought - drlex mentioned "firmware updates" earlier. If you have a "slot loading" iMac (that is, you put a CD into a slot in front of the iMac instead of into a CD tray that ejects from the front), be sure and read Article 75430 on Apple's Web site.
I wish I had before I upgraded MY...
Maybe this will help. Apple refers to versions 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3 and 10.4 as "reference releases", which means that the software is distributed as a stand-alone system software package that can be installed regardless of the version of Mac OS currently installed. You may see them called...
JPEGView is the one I would recommend. I have used it since OS 8.x days, and it always worked flawlessly.
I displayed the "Get Info" screen and gave it 30000K to work with and it never choked. Great Postcardware program.

A more complete answer might be,
1) Open Apple System Profiler (usually located in your Apple Menu)
2) Click the System Profile tab.
3) Scroll down and select Network Overview, then TCP/IP. The Macintosh's "MAC Address" will be listed under Hardware Address.
Good luck!
To follow up on MacGeneral's suggestion ( <snip> THEN go BACK in to the tcp/ip control panel and you will be autoprompted to make tcp/ip active. Go with Yes here and then close out the tcp/ip window saving. <snip> ), I suggest that before closing the TCP/IP window you also UNcheck the box that...
Try this - go to Tools, then Options, then click the Security tab. Make sure "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" is UNchecked, then click OK.
More information can be found here...
For future reference, check out Tome Viewer (currently version 1.3d3), which you can find by searching for Macintosh software at either http://www.tucows.com/ or http://www.versiontracker.com/ .
I have used this software for about 3 years, and it performs exactly as expected.
Good luck!
While I am not familiar with Screencam, I do have a recommendation to make for screen captures. I use Ambrosia Software's Snapz Pro because using Apple's recommended method doesn't give me the flexibility I need to capture windows, menus, etc. Ambrosia has been around for years, and this...
You might check this link http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2002.htm and/or this one http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=301414 , both of which address general attachment problems. Good luck!
1) Open the TCP/IP control panel.
2) Click the Edit Menu and select User Mode, switching from Basic to Administration (note - do not set a Password), then click "OK".
3) Click the Options button in the lower right corner, and make sure "Load Only When Needed" is NOT...
Greetings from Texas.
If there is a question about compatibility, here is info on OS 8-9 ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25114 ) and requirements for Jaguar, OS 10.2 ( http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/requirements.html ).
WARNING - do NOT click the link that the above-mentioned Tucows site gives as the Related Site link for Redux Software. It appears to have been grabbed by an adult pornographic site.
Howdy. I'm a new member and I was just looking around here, and lo, something I can help with already!
I have been running OS 8.6 for several years now, and I have used a freeware program called Redux. Sadly, the software is no longer supported by the manufacturer. However, I located version...
