If you can get two static IP's, that's the best option, but surely you will be getting a PPPoE connection from your ISP and in that case, the best is a third router, one that can dial the ISP and then share the connection to the two networks.
If you don't need tight security, you can put both...

It's a small network... we have but two servers: PDC (AD) and Mailserver (In fact a W2K PRO)...
Why do you recommend a MS DHCP is better?

My gateway/router (A linksys one) which act as my dhcp server has the same DNS settings for the internal and external interface...
