Your registry entry for the VPN Contivity Client is corrupt. Download the registry patch, it fixes it every time. Before Brother had it out on their website I was providing the patch to many people and it resolved the issue in every case.
I just ran the patch file (.reg) they sent me.
If you want, send me an email:
barbara.switzer@globalcrossing.com
I will attach the file and send it back to you.
Thanks.
I have a personal PC at home and a work laptop that I use at home (more than at work). The work laptop is assigned to a doamin(not to a workgroup). When I changed the laptop to a workgroup (trying to put both PC's in same workgroup so I can do printer sharing), I could no longer log in. After...

Oops , one more thing. After installing SP2 I also installed their debugging tools. I then attached the debugger to the extranet process that is failing to see
the trace. I did see that I got a message stating that
BannerSOck: Could not connect to socket (or something like that). Not sure if...
OK. here is the latest on this issue.
I again un-installed everything, then removed all files manually. THen I removed all registry entries manually. I booted to safe and removed any remaining registry entries.
(Included VPN and brother stuff).
I then re-booted and re-installed VPN.
Still...
User NiteLite mentioned that the brother multifunctionprinter can cause the checking for banner text issue, but I do not see how this was resolved. I have another thread going on this issue and I completely stuck at this point.
NiteLite, hopefully you see this and can post a response.
Here is an update:
After un-installing all brother components I then:
1) Still had the error with VPN
2) Un-installed VPN again and re-installed
- Still have error
3) Un-installed VPn and instaleld a newer version
- Still have error
4) Installed brother software again but this time used...
I also tried un-installing VPN again and installing a newer version, with no success. The Brother software also came with paperport, so I un-installed that re-booted and tried VPN again, with no luck.
I am now wiping out all the brother drivers and will re-boot one more time and try again...
Ok. I thought I had tried disabling IPEC before, but I guess I did not (what heppens after hours of debugging!). Anyway, when I tried turning off on Local Area Network,I was forced to select another method (radio buttons on 2000), that then threw an error and did not allow the change.
I also...
I did try turing IPSEC on (my corporate help desk stated it should be off) and tried connecting again and received same failure. That was early in the troubleshooting process, maybe I will try it again. I will try again and post waht I find.
I did check the Event Viewer at time of failure, I got
"Server could not bind to the transport \Device\NetBT_T cpip_ {504A2777-8071-4A59-807B-2F3E3D260F8A}"
THis was the only event that occured at failure.
I checked the internet on this one and one suggestion was to make sure file...
My VPN (Nortel Networks Contivity) was working fine over broadband (road runner) until I installed the MFC-8500 Brother printer.
Since then, I get a connection lost after connection gets "stuck" trying to get banner text.
I did check the # of ethernet adapters and reduced it to the 2...
