    Compaq Insight on a Non-Compaq?

    Use DMI or obtain a custom MIB from the non-Compaq vendor. Configure SNMP to report traps to the CIM server. I've used CIM to monitor anything from Compaq, IBM, DELL, to homegrown and other equipment.

    Better yet, if you are using CIM7 just get the MIB (Or write your own if you are good) Import the MIB into CIM7 and he'll be just fine with monitoring that equipment for you.
