i may not have the correct answer, but could you not use an access list to grant access on port 3306. if it is applied to both inbound and outbound interfaces, all users should be able to access it no probmem. hope that helps.

bf0x, i tried your suggestion. then we had a power outage, and the when the router booted back up, it went into rommon. i have to indicate the image to boot off of, and initialize the interfaces and assign the ip addresses before tftp'ing the config file back and finally getting the router...
