Thanks Nigel. The issue is that there are lots of "wierd" little apps (Tax apps, authentication servers, EDMS,...) that all have their own settings. To find them all and change them is somewhat painful. I'd prefer to keep the same name. DR type recovery did cross my mind, I was hoping there was...
We use Cleaswift's Mailsweeper. It is not cheap, but is very flexible and has saved our bacon on many occasions where AV has not had a released signature for a new virus. Very effective at filtering executables etc., even hidden inside a word document. SPAM filter is "ok" but not all that...
We have new hardware for our SQL 2000 server. It has a myriad of small databases on it, all from different sources. Is there an easy way to migrate the whole thing to a new platform, or should we build the new server (new name) and migrate each database separately? I guess the main concerns are...
And the Oscar goes to......
Port 135.
Thanks to you all. It took some serious arm twisting but I finally got through to the requisite techie who found the rule in the PIX.
Works a treat now.
That's no much information to go on. Does his entry appear in the console? Check the spelling carefully. Are there any relevant entries in the event log? Have you successfully done this before? One DC or many? Can you log him onto an existing machine?
We want MORE....<insert wicked laugh> ;).
Thanks BuckWheet that is absolutley fantastic. I'll get South Africa to put that in as soon as they can and see what happens. I have access to the Australian end, but not the SA end. Makes it difficult for this exercise, but with your help we'll get there.
According to the Firewall guys, they can see traffic arrive at both of our DC's with acks and fins on 445 from this host. Now, I have to ask, what is required for a logon to our domain on this (member server) machine, that is obviously not required to join it to our domain in the first place...
It still pulls, but is under the control of a policy. You import a template into the GPO, which has all the settings for your SUS. On 2000 clients and up this modifies the Windows Update client to pull from the SUS server according to the policy settings. You can tell the policy has applied on a...
Gotta say it sounds like an Inbox rule still. What you are describing is exactly what would happen. They arrive, then get checked and despatched based upon the rule. The fact that Exchange is delivering it means Exchange is ok.
swabs is right on the money. SUS works a treat. We have it rolled out to all 7 sites from our central server via a distribution server at each site (slow links). Only thing to watch is servers restart automatically during the update, which can be a bit disconcerting. We leave somebody logged...
That would have been too easy. Firewall guys at the South Africa end are having a look at the rules. Ran the MS diagnostic tools and found nothing exceptional except once again the old RPC Server is unavailable. Seems to be able to list DC's ok, which I felt sure was what it couldn't do. What I...
Interesting. I just installed a second processor in Compaq DL380G2, it said you can use different speeds and it will configure itself to the lower of the two. Must be some limits, but it didn't mention any.
Find the "W2K Proliant Support Pack" on the Compaq/HP site. Run it and it loads all the latest drivers for the OS. Otherwise use the SmartStart CD, which has an option to create driver disks.
Cheers.
Not sure if it is relevant, but when I setup our OWA, I found you had to logon "explicitly" to OWA if you were not on your own domain.
http://server.name/Exchange/mail.alias. I also found mail.alias was in our case "firstname.lastname", being email alias rather than logon...
Here is a link from a simple Google search. It shows you some of the screens and a configuration example. Instead of "nhs.uk" in their case, you would use your MDaemon software from what I understand of your system. If I recall correctly, you put an IP address in there inside square...
dandl,
We are happy to help with problems here, but I would be VERY cautious about using this as a resource to re-design you network without some local knowledge. Timing problems and lack of knowledge of your site/configuration will make it very difficult if something goes wrong. I'd make sure...
You are quite correct, and when we are able to logon to the box it will become a DC/DNS for that site. It was working before Firewall changes were made. It previously went via a Cisco router-based VPN passed through the firewalls, whereas it now goes via a VPN between two PIX boxes. There is a...
The Internet Mail connector (IMC)is what routes mail destined for the Internet. It has lots of settings depending upon your network configuration. I work for a largish company so I am used to it being set to send all mail off to our MailSweeper for delivery via the Firewall, but it can be set to...
Email doesn't just "disappear" from Exchnage. Exchange is an extremely "structured" environment in which database checks ensure transactions are correct.
Three things come to mind. One is as suggested, a client is "pulling" them from the server and deleting them...
There is something we are missing in your explanations here. You should be able to create a custom recipient, with a display name and smtp (Internet) address. Once created, from your normal Outlook (MAPI) client, you should type the display name in the "To:" field, and if you then...
