Mike,
Not only do you need to make sure you're at sp5, and unload OFA (which I also had problems with; once not using it's all OK), but make sure the # of allowed logins for the account running the backup is sufficient. Look at your logs and you will see a numberof login/logouts in the...
Turn on Netware auditing. In previous versions of Netware, it was done via Auditcon. In Netware 6, you need to install/enable NAAS (Novell Advanced Auditing Service).
Novell has some links on their web site that reference TIDs for NAAS:
NAAS Quick Start Guide - TID 10067500
Guide to Auditing...
We'll be using a Sonicwall for the firewall, and their built-in vpn client. I think I actually have this figured out. And I can also allow them to use either Outhouse (er, Outlook) or Pegasus as the email client, either will work.
Thanks much everyone for the input. It was helpful!
Thanks for the replies. As for our Pegasus setup, we use Pegasus as an internal client, not a traditional POP client, as each person must authenticate to the network to send/receive email. Their mailbox is a directory on the network. Mercury/32 manages the mail into and out of the network...
I need some direction on how to set up a few of my users for remote access to the Netware 6 file server, as this is something I've never done. We will have a firewall, and each will be using a VPN client to authenticate through the firewall. But, what's next? There will be two types of...
Update--the modification "changeonalert" to NO does work for the backup job--in other words, the screen saver is still active/activated after the backup is completed. But, I noticed this morning that when the auto prune/purge feature kicks in, it also deactivates the screen saver...
Actually, I am going to try one thing today. It was suggested I unload ArcServe, then edit the asconfig.ini and under the section [Scheduler], edit the line
"ChangeScreenOnAlert=YES" (which is the default) to NO,
reload ArcServe and see if that helps. Will let you know!

Hey jsamples,
Thanks very much for that tip--it worked! Never in all my years with Novell have I had to do that one. Always run DSRepair with regular maintenance, but it never reported any errors.
thanks again!

I probably didn't make myself clear--the used connections do not show up in monitor at all. But they for some reason show up if I run NLIST USER /A from a command prompt.
That's what's strange. The user was trying to log in and was being told they were trying to log in too many times, BUT when...
Have a strange issue that I've never seen before with NW6, sp2. I had a user logged into a workstation that is now no longer working, so I gave him a replacement PC. The server has been rebooted a few times since this all took place. I have for some reason had to increase the number of active...
SSWnet:
Yep, I agree disabling a processor *is* really lame! Very poor tech support. I just wish they would get their act together and fix the product. It used to be pretty good, now it's just really bad. I have only a single processor in my particular situation, so I am not much help here to...
Have an issue on my NW6 sp2 server with the scrsaver.nlm. It's loaded from the autoexec.ncf, and will always activate after the server is rebooted, working just fine. However, for some reason it is not activated/console unlocked seemingly after the ArcServe 7 nightly backup. The status shows...
I have finally had luck with my Powerchute Business Edition, and no thanks to their TS. Have it running and it's staying connected. Just dumped everything and started over, even reapplying the sp2 on Netware because when Powerchute was not properly working, we lost power a few times and the...
We have been having similar problems. Configuration is:
NW5.1 with SP2, clients are all NT Workstation 4.0 with SP6a
high encrypt, NW Client 4.83 (I belive that 4.8, sp3?), protocols are IPX and IP. Since we upgraded from the 4.7 client to the 4.8 client some users experience hangs a login...
Thanks jscottd for the reply. But we had the error in the 3.30 client, too. Any other ideas? I am really interested in the cause--it's a mystery, and it does not happen on all my machines, only a few.

I have had this problem too, on a few machines. They are Win95 OSR2 machines,
were running the 3.x client and have updated all to the latest Win95 client, and still the problem comes up from time to time. I can't figure it out. Have uninstalled the clients, reinstalled them, and still have...
