Question #2:
Also, What would happen if one of these WAN connections is not working? Would the Universal Group Cache answer the group memberships until the cache expires?
Oh, I've been there too. Not fun.
HP & lexmark port monitors are NOTORIOUS for causing hang-ups.

I'd like to know if I should enable Universal Group Caching given the following scenario:

Thanks for your answer.
For simplicy's sake I swapped IP's of 2 DC/DNS servers and achieved what I wanted (not having to change DNS IP's on any client and keep clients pointed to DCs for DNS resolutions.)
Currenly we're not using DNS integrated with AD. Essentially we're still using a single...
Hello,
First, thanks for your response. The setup you describe is already in use in our current DNS structure and working very well.
I was kind of trying to simplify a larger question I posted (link below) regarding some DNS server migrations...
I think you are essentially asking for 'guest' access i.e. users who are either on the AD or visitors who just want to get to the Internet & email.
This falls under the topic of "Network Access Control" or NAC which is a HOT topic (i.e. revenue) for a lot of companies...
PS: Our company...
Do Windows XP, 2000, 2003 member servers, 2008 member servers in an AD domain need to point their primary and secondary DNS server settings to a DNS server that is also a Domain controller (with NON-AD Integrated DNS zones)?
Why or why not? As long as they can resolve the AD domain via dns...
I'm trying to figure out the best course of action regarding the migration of Non-integrated DNS from 2 Windows 2000 SP4 based DC to newer Windows 2003 based DCs.

I believe you can actually reset all settings back to factory and or remove all installed products.

There are 2 utilities which can assist you in pinpointing the problems:

1. You could create a GLOBAL Group in Active Directory (i.e. NoHTTPAccess

Thanks, I'm familiar with this option and I may consider doing just what you have described.

I'm having the same problem; I think I'll just upgrade to v10. Ultimately I think the problem in our case was that the our tapes were filling up and so it didn't know where to write the On-Media catalog. Tools | Options | Catalog | "Use storage media-based catalogs"
Otherwise I'm having the...
Thanks wnbowman,
It turns out that I have missed some of the steps. I ended up working 'til 12:30am on a Friday/Saturday but I got it to work. All it well with the server, the only item not restored was the Recovery Console... files are there but the boot.ini doesn't show it. I did back it up...
Hello,
We are in the process of expanding a Proliant ML370 G3 server running W2K SP4, from using 2 SCSI drives attached to the onboard SCSI controllers to a SmartArray 5302 PCI controller with 5 x 72GB drives in a RAID 5 configuration.
Our goal is to preserve the "OS" (System State) & all...
I don't know what kind of connections you have between the buildings but I would want to limit broadcasts at each building BEFORE it hits your main switches;
