I did install the drivers. No problems. I was working at another site that also had IBM drivers, but guess what? They exhibited the same problem!!
I have spoken with Legato Support - they told me that they have had problems reported with both the IBM and the native drivers.

Have you installed the IBM LTO2 Drivers? I am facing a similiar problem (but on Solaris). I am using the native Solaris drivers, and have been told by a consultant that I need to use the IBM LTO2 Solaris drivers.
In order to backup the indexes and create a bootstrap, I have created a bootstrap group with every client a member of the group and run the following savegrp from cron:
savegrp -O -l full bootstrap
This causes a full backup of the indexes and creates a full bootstrap.

We are currently bringing up a W2K server running 6.1.1 with SDLT drives. So far the W2K and NT 4.0 clients are functioning fine. The SAN nodes are backing up at rates varying from 13-20 Mb/sec.
The network clients are getting between 1.5-5 Mb/sec.
We have encountered a problem as follows:
W2K Legato Server with 6.1.1
W2K clients with SAN Storage Nodes.
AIX 4.3.3 clients clients with SAN storage nodes.
Compaq Super DLTs.
We are using Dynamic Drive Sharing.
I can label tapes on either the Legato server or on either the AIX or W2K SAN...
