snapview scripts

I would recommend you ask EMC about Replication Manager/SE. The scripting required will take you quite some time. BTW...are you considering snaps or clones? HTH...Dale

    powerpath configuration problems

I recommend using the e-lab navigator to verify the configuration. This should give you the required releases, patches, drivers, etc. From my own experience it takes a specific driver for the emulex to function...otherwise PowerPath can not "see" the hba.

pvchange - what is needed to be done?

You can do a "pvchange -t 180 /dev/dsk/cXtXdX" and it will immediately occur (changes the I/O timeout to 180 seconds).

    HP-UX 11i and EMC - nomegapoll

You should stop Navisphere...make the change...then restart it. poll 120 nomegapoll OptionsSupported AutoTrespass These are what I have in my agent.config file for HP-UX 11. Of course this is a server with dual HBAs. You'll also need to change the default I/O timeout to 180 for the Clariion...

save: unknown host name: (yes, the hosts file is correct)

Have you tried running the client and/or server in debug mode? That might help you troubleshoot where the disconnect is occurring. Later version of NetWorker do a lot more authentication. HTH...Dale

    SAN Copy

I believe SANCopy is a Clariion product that requires the destination disk be on a Clariion.

    Error: incompatible Tape

I believe STK-L20s have a barcode reader. Please make sure you have the proper barcode on the tape. It will have the L2 designator on the label for gen-2 tapes. HTH...Dale

    register after deregister

We can only assume you were testing the deregister process which removes the connection and the host. So your testing worked *grin* Or...what were you trying to test? Just manually register the hba like when you're adding a new server. HTH...Dale

    STK L20 with HP DL380

Excellent answer. That way you have someone to blame when the backups fail...or more importantly when you can't recover after a disk failure. SCSI resets do "interesting" things to tape drives and backups. IMHO...you should pay a lot of attention to the comment above about separating Disk I/O...

    format of volser labels?

STK normally is a 3of9 barcoded label. Just search the web and download a 3of9 font for word. The contents of the barcode depends on the type of tape drive/tape cartridge. That is what the C,D,L1,L2...etc is referencing. For example an LTO Gen 1 label would be: *AAAAAAL1* where the 6 A's...

Cache % Hit on Symm 8830

Well that's a fascinating answer but not true in my case. I had a cache hit ratio around 80% but a fall-through of less than 60 seconds. My busiest server was seeing an average response time of 12ms. The cache was increased from 16 to 24...the cache hit ratio remained the same...the...

Cache % Hit on Symm 8830

%Utilization is not the best indicator of saturation (IMHO). You need to ask your EMC CE about the "cache fall-through" time. In other words how long is data being held in cache before it is flushed/forced out. Two minutes would be the minimum time (general rule-of-thumb). HTH...Dale

Multiple entries in netcnfg is not working. Any suggestions.

So you have 2 ECC servers then? What shows when you run "symcfg -services list"? I hope you recognize the security risks and will use the proper files to block access. Dale

Multiple entries in netcnfg is not working. Any suggestions.

Can I ask what you're trying to achieve? I'm assuming UNIX based on your commands. I'll try to help if you'll give a little more info. Dale

Tape SUCKS! What else is there?

Sean, Your issue is why we don't use DLT nor LTO for most of our mission critical backups. Any place where we must use this technology we clone the tapes for verification purposes. We are a Legato NetWorker customer. We use STK's 9840 tape drives. IBM has similar "quality" drives as part of...

LTO2 vs 9940 Which way to go??

To me the number one factor in STK-9xxx technology vs any LTO and/or DLT type is reliability, which includes the "duty-cycle" you'll be placing on the drives. IMHO...IBM (magstar) and STK (9xxx) have the best drives to support a heavy workload. As long as your management's main...

    cannot find usable cleaning slot

Is the cleaning tape (and slot) identified to NetWorker? If not, you'll need to use "nsrjb -s <server_name> -j <jukebox_name> -U <uses> -S <slot>". If it is make sure the cleaning tape has "uses" left. HTH...Dale
