You need to be a more clear on “Internet”.
First, VM Pro connects thru the LAN. When you say “internet”, do you mean the LAN went down?
If the LAN is down while a voicemail recording was in session, it will fail to connect to the VM pc and record the message, at least to point of LAN failure...
Actually, you did prove it by providing your own switch and plugging them in direct. Take in your switch, bypassed their network and show them that they work.
There is always some little tick box or wrong configuration that has not been checked on the network side….
Try cut and paste of this extension to an unused extension. Then delete everything on the troubled extension and merge. Then cut and paste the button layout back to the original extension and merge and see what happens.
If the VM Pro pc is still online and powered up, IPO does not recognize it as failed. I’ve had this happen on several occasions when the service was “locked up”. It’s not functioning but the IPO doesn’t know that. Remove the pc from the LAN until it’s fixed.

Your best bet is to call somebody on site and physically unplug those damaged ports from the analog station. Software changes wont stop damage by arcing and shorting of cut wires.
