Just because a PIX is new does not mean it comes with 6.x or highter. We purchased our PIX last year and to my amazement my IOS was 3 versions behind what Cisco had released. It takes less than 5 minutes to upgrade the IOS of the PIX if done properly. I don't think returning it is the answer.

If your PIX has version 6.0 or later you can go into the configuration menu of the PIX (configure terminal) and type setup. If PDM is already installed the prompts will appear to configure the PDM software.

PDM uses the same commands that the PIX Configuration book has, it just gives you a nice GUI interface to work with. If you follow the config book, using PDM to change the settings should be relatively easy.
