Actually, I tried typing in a new paragraph, and it too behaves the same way. The font can be selected with the selection tool. However, it cannot be highlighted. If I go to "create outlines", the option is gray and unavailable. I've tried "bring to front" several times. I've sent the art to...- laoscura

I'm using Illustrator 10, education version on windows xp. This has happened before, I fixed it, but don't remember how. Thanks Mike. It's funny, I did every single one of these steps before with no results. The only thing I didn't do was try to select the image in Illustrator. It pops into my art as an invisible element, so I've never tried selecting it before. Thanks for the help, because it works perfectly...- laoscura

can anyone tell me how to take a piece of art and make a clipping path out of it when I place it in Illustrator?
