guess I need to post a picture. I grounded it to the ground that the electricians were using. Looked like a ground rod inside the building sticking out of the concrete floor below the electrical panel. That may have been connected to building steel, as well, as there was a ground wire running...
The quote for indoor/outdoor fiber was for $1500 (300'). cat 5e outdoor $700. lightning protectors on each end, grounded to earth ground on both ends. The guy wire was grounded too.
Its that simple, or is there a new way to intall lightning protection that Im not aware of?
We ended up going with cat 5e outdoor, strapped to a guy-wire. Lightning protection for 1 cat 5e was pretty cheap, for what it does. The customer was happy paying $700 to connect his two buildings. less than half of what fiber would have been.
The original quote was for fiber, but the guy was asking, as its just under 300' total run, with 60' of outdoor in the middle.
I dont believe that the 110 blocks on lightning protection would be cat 6 compliant, especially after punching down and continuing on another 100'just wondering if there...
buitenhek- difference between pulling from mdf or pulling to mdf. If you do it the old school way, pulling from the mdf, you never have to move your boxes/reels of cable. That takes time when your talking about 10-20 boxes of cable, for every pull..
Also, no estimating of how much cable you...
Using snips to separate the pairs is usually faster than that tool. also, some of those panduit jacks, if you have to insert the pairs like a mod plug, the trick is to cut the wires on a 45 degree angle, and then insert
The hospitals in grand rapids,mi. (spectrum health) made you take pictures of all the firestopping penetrattions, and place a sticker or update the sticker with your name and company. You were typically looking at usually at least 5 penetrations to get to your location. If you were working...
Why not install a 24 strand mm. Same cost for labor to pull it in. pay to have 6 strands terminated and tested now, but you will be happy later to have extras there.
What have you all used for cleaning outside plant icky-pic?
obviously I cannot get this d-gel today.
Im pretty sure ive seen someone using fast orange hand cleaner... seems like rubbing alcohol would work, I may try this today.
Dang, why didnt you guys reply earlier... hahah
I just bought the corning "beaver tail" cleaver, which will work on most of the "dumb" connectors including unicam and Hubbel. I just watched another contractor terminate with hot-melts and it took him all day to do a 6 strand, with moving the...
Ok, just talked to him. apparently it is an AT&T kit, and you had to insert glue, and then heeat to cure the glue. Now its coming back. Im going to try this oven with a hot-melt connector to see how it works.
I know my dad has an old fiber termination kit that I used about 15 years ago, that had and oven, and you had to manually cleave and sand. I thought that you put the connectors into the oven when you were done to cure, but I could be wrong, and It might be a "hot melt" style. I am hoping that...
I was asked to pull out some old cabling and decided to see what it was worth. ive got about a 100 cables with a 100' on them. anyone want to take a guess on the weight?
Ill let you know if i get the go ahead.
A customer called me out to look at some fiber, that he couldnt find patch cords for. fiber that ran between buildings. The connectors were similar to a coax, in that they had a "nut" where you could screw them onto your panel with a wrench. The other notable, was that the end of the fiber...
How much are you getting for scrap wire in your area?
I Just finished a project with 410 cat 6 cables. we didnt have very much scrap. Only the cables that went from floor above to terminate in closet below. (not my design)haha
