SATA in general has a higher failure rate. I test these arrays for LSI/Engenio. I have been quite surprised in my test lab at how few of my SATA drives have failed, but I expect it every day. That is just SATA. For your purpose of backup before tape it should work fine.
The EMC boxes seem to be shut. Meaning that you have to pay for every little thing you get for it. They won't allow the user to do what they want to once they buy the box. Open systems is the way to go in my opinion. STK provides this.
You should be able to. The only problem is if the new drive is twice the size of the others that space is wasted. It will only use the lowest common denominator.

You can connect a RAID storage device to a LAN via a storage router. This would include a CNT Storage router, iSCSI (Cisco) is another way to go. You are basically utilizing the iFCP or iSCSI protocol in these products. There is also Nishan Systems and some companies are implementing a software...
Well if performance is what you looking for probably RAID 0 is your best bet, but you do not have any kind of "failsafe" . With RAID 1 its a mirrored copy, so perfmance will be slowed a little over RAID 0. RAID 5 is slow if you are doing a lot of READS and updates to a database for...
RAID is (Redundant Array of Independant Disks). There are different levels 0,1,3,5. RAID can be created by using software or hardware. Veritas Volume Manager uses a software method, and someone like LSI Logic Storage Systems will use a hardware implementation, where you have a separate...
Yes, I believe you just put the variables in the sqlplus in single quotes. Its been a while since I have done it, but it can be done. Try double quoting the variable under sqlplus as well. JW
I work for a FC Storage Company. We also make HBA's. With our HBA's you must purchase the card to support IP, FC and so on. It may be the same with the Qlogic. I would try to call their support number JW
I am having the same problem. I have read a couple of things.
1. 3113 is a catch-all code (real helpful)
2. This is a bug from Oracle. I am about to investigate on Oracles Partner website and see if they have anything out there. JW
I have had this problem when I have had an entry in the /etc/resolv.conf like "search <domain>", but I was not really on that domain, or just an entry in /etc/resolv.conf that said "domain <domain>". JW
How about taking the second NIC card in each machine and setting it to a 192.168.x.x address and trasferring the data over that network. The other cards stay on the production network, and your data moves over a private network. JW
Has anyone tried to use an adapter for a sun monitor. (ie. Convert the Sun cable to a VGA or SVGA monitor.)
I have tried two different adapters with three monitors. Two monitors get rolling screens, and one gets a message "scan out of range".
Help! Anyone! JW
I have a linux machine with a dial in modem hooked up. The other day I was looking around on the system and did an ifconfig -a. The net interfaces eth0, lo were there and then one that was labeled 647. What would that be?
