    Bootable RAID 1

I changed from RAID 0 to RAID 1 and finally got it recognized in XP. I set it active. What's the best way to make it the boot partition? There's nothing on it right now. I could use the help. Maudman

Raid 0 to raid 1 conversion?

Is there a way to convert 2 SATA RAID 0 array disks to Raid 1 without destroying the data? Probably not but it sure would be handy. Maudman

    RAID 0 install w/o floppy

Syar, Not trying to be lazy but I'm using the exact same mobo. Is it possible that I can get a copy of that disk from you and then I can edit it from there? I have 2 Maxtor 60 GB SATA drives on the way. starbuck@houston.rr.com AMD 3000+ XP Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo Samsung 52 X CD-RW 1024 MB...

    RAID 0 install w/o floppy

I don't have a floppy drive and I want to install 2 SATA drives in RAID 0 config. Can I use the old HDD to provide the drivers or does it HAVE to be on a floppy? Appreciate any help.

    RAID 0 SATA

I heard that it's blazing fast and my mobos are less than 6 months old. Maudman.

    RAID 0 SATA

Whoa! Too many opinions too fast!! Thanks for the help. Maudman

    RAID 0 SATA

Anybody running this combo? Is it blazing fast or a slight improvement? It sure sounds tempting and both my Asus mobos support it. Maudman

    Turn down swap file?

I keep a 500 meg static swap file with 512 RAM and have never had a problem. I may experiment when I get the other 512, I'll post results here.

    Turn down swap file?

Good article but I'm not sure how well that old rule holds up about 150% of your memory. Maudman

    Turn down swap file?

With a gig of 2700 DDR has anyone tried turning the swap file down to maybe 20 meg or turning it off all together? Would the system (XP Pro) go slow as hell or be forced to use the memory? Maudman

    CPU fan enigma

I don't see that option in the BIOS but the 7000 RPM is working on the old heatsink and idling temp is now about 46C. Gaming temp is now 51C which is what I used to idle at. The old fan used to max out at 3500 and just wasn't enough. I may experiment with the 2 copper heatsinks later. Maudman

    CPU fan enigma

Well, that makes sense but I just looked at the heatsinks and front and back would be VERY vague.

    CPU fan enigma

I didn't know that you could put a heatsink on backwords. There were no recess' on any of the heatsinks. As for the fan portion, the mobo ended up liking the new fan and disliking the old fan. No copper heatsink ever worked on this board. Just aluminum. BTW, while looking at my old heatsink I...

    CPU fan enigma

CPU (AMD 3000+ XP) temp at idle was about 52C and 61C gaming. Ordered fans and heatsinks and they would not run with the Asus mobo. Run for a second and shutdown. I figured that since the electronics were in the fan I might get a little more cooling from the copper heatsink and the old fan...

    Master or Slave

Thanks, just something I was pondering. Drive went in smooth and I put 20 gig drive with CDROM. Maudman

    Master or Slave

Thanks guys. I'm waiting for a new video card before I crack the case. You know, I may just put the second drive (20 gig and 5400 RPM with the CDROM and put the 60 gig with the 80 gig. Both are 7200 RPM. I suppose a RAID 0 cinfig HAS to be same size hard drives. Maudman
