When we were using AIX 4.3, we were able to rcp files to our backup server using "rcp -pr" and the files would retain their ownership and group permissions. Now ALL rcp'd files belong to root. Good news...the rcp works. Bad news...the spooled files listing is very confusing.
Any suggestions...
When running ps aux, this process seems to always head the list. What is kproc? It is still growing with an old date stamp, in spite of the fact that I rebooted the server last weekend.
Thanks!
We were supplied with these directions:

2.User DSN tab
3.Add
4.Select Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface.
5.Enter a Data Source Name. (anything)
6.Click on Create
7.Enter a Database Name. (anything)

We are purchasing a new server. Our old rs6000 ran on AIX 4.3. The new one uses AIX 5.0. Our company will pay for a training session to bring us up to speed on the new OS. If anyone could recommend a class that would cover the greatest procedural differences in moving to this new AIX...
Our backup server normally sends email to our department when a backup is successful. This stopped one month ago. The messages listed when I run this /usr/bin/mailq are either (Warning: could not send message for past 4 hours)
or (Deferred: The connection is refused by...
I would like to tar all the files in one of my directories, but I keep getting a 'too many parameters' message upon each try. I started with the basic
tar -cvf /dev/rmt2 * > invenbkup.txt
command that used to work, then altered it into
tar -cvf /dev/rmt2 [a-g]*
which did...
When I uninstalled Informix, some components of the new datasource I created are still referred to on the registry files. So, when I reinstalled I encountered problems removing that datasource. I am no longer able to install the 'older' drivers necessary for the version of Informix which our...
After installing and uninstalling a number of times, I called Informix support. Our big problem is that we have to use a pre-packaged legacy system that was given to each school district to use with our database.
The drivers that we must use in order to work with our database are old and no...
We have a number of older IBM printers (4232 and 4247 models) that are connected to polling boxes, which connect to our network. Lately all 4 of these printers have been going down 3 and 4 times a day. The fix is easy, reset them by disconnecting the box and reconnecting. It is the living...
We are having problems getting an Informix file to print on our networked Xerox Docutech printer. Our network OS is AIX. I did get it to print the file successfully as a text file, but we need all the formatting.
Has anyone been able to accomplish this? I assume that since the Docutech is a...
restore -xvf /dev/rmt1 /home/subdir/filename
This seems simple enough, but it restored 0 files. This was my 4th attempt. I cannot believe that it should take 3+ hours to restore ONE file! I did a restore -T to check to see how the file was listed on the tape first. It is
listed as...
We have been attempting a restore with little success. Two replacement rmt2 drives later...we still get the same results. The restore begins, appears to be doing well. until repeating lines fill the screen with an error. Processes slow to a near halt until we stop the restore. Our command...
Has anyone been successful at configuring a Xerox Docutech print server to work remotely from an RS6000? We have Xerox working with us on this...but all wheels are spinning.
We have been showing a process marked <defunct> now for a week. I have not been able to find any information on this. I can not remove it with the kill command. Do we simply have to live with it?
We have 300 printers on our rs6000 and lately some of our older (but heavily used) IBM printers have lost the polling signal and need to be reset.
I would love to be able to find a script that will email me (sendmail) when any of these printers cannot be pinged.
Thank you!
