Anyone know of a good Packeteer forum?

input on a decision for a core purchase in next 30 days (4500, 6500, 6800)

The 6800 line will not be shipping in time for me to make the decision and use the budget funds by Dec 1 on a 6800 solution. Thus, I am left to decide between a dual core running either 4500’s or 6500s. Port capacity/ density is not and issue as the 4500 has 10 slot chassis and we are offloading...

Wondering if anyone has tried any of these OCS, VOIP integration functions yet?

    Baystack 4500 stack order question

On the older Baystacks with the text CLI/ GUI you could display the hardeware units in the stack and also reorder them from the text GUI/ Menu. The 4500 does not have this menu, just pure CLI. Does anyone know a command to display and also re-order the stack units from the CLI and also if this...

Anyone have a mixed core of Nortel & Cisco?

We have two 8600's in our core. I know some networks have quad 8600's for cores. Anyone have a mixed environment of dual 8600's and dual Cisco 6500's for a core?

Will we have a company to support the networks we have built?

Anyone wondering if the large Nortel data network they have built is facing a dead end around software fixes, releases, and future hardware growth in any form with no choice but to place green devices in their racks for new network growth? Critics are predicting Nortel cannot make it through...

Digital recording solution for VOIP and TDM?

We have a Nortel CSE 1000 with around 600 stations about 20 agent that have an old school handset splitter recording solution that records audio input via the local PC sound card. We are looking at some VOIP recording solutions and I am wondering if anyone has good/ bad feedback in this area...

    Network Loops

Over the past 4-5 years since putting in dual core 8600’s and links from each 8600 to closet stacks, etc. We have been bitten by network loops. (These loops swamp the VLAN with BPDU’s end up knocking down the 8600 gig uplinks via Excessive broadcast CP limits, etc.) Loops in the form of upstream...

    Baystack 470 password recovery?

I needed a Baystack 470-24T to replace a one that died in a stack. Got one off eBay for $40. It still has the previous password set. Is there a process on power up or keystrokes to clear previous config or a password recovery process?

SMLT or DMLT with dual 8600's feeding closet stacks?

We have two 8600's in our core connected with IST trunks. We have always used SMLT to the closet stacks with a 1GB uplink from each 8600 running SMLT. Is there a reason or benefit we should consider DMLT over SMLT?

Wired and Wireless networks; how to keep them from fighting?

We have Baystack switch stacks in the closets for wired connections. We also have a Cisco wireless network that ends up going back into the production network to access the same VLAN's via wireless. Many folks end up sitting at their desk with the Ethernet wired interface plugged in and the...

    5500 switch LACP setup

We are using the 5510's stacked for a VMware farm. The server admins want to use LACP from the servers for link aggregation. I have setup MLT/ SMLT to the 8600's but not used LACP from an edge 470 or 550 0 series. Is the LACP setup as simple as editing the port and enabling LACP on a per port...

What is the opinion of the new Nortel 4500 line?

Our Nortel sales team is coming in next week to talk about the 4500 line to replace our 460/ 470 closet stacks. Anyone have early opinions yet?

    MLT, DMLT, SMLT?

Can someone describe the differences in MLT, DMLT, SMLT? The Nortel site's search engine is terrible about actually delivering informational topics. One huge vote I give to Cisco is their web site augments far better use for information research, config samples, and software/ IOS downloads.

8600 & SMLT interfacing to other non Nortel switches via SMLT

What recommendations or examples of actual implementations would you recommend to interface non Nortel closet switches to 8600's using SMLT with dual uplinks? Would you recommend SMLT on the 8600's and LACP on the layer II edge switch device? I am exploring non Nortel edge closet switch options...

Need some GLBP help please? (moved from HSRP)

I have two 7505 routers. 1 with a 10MB ethernet connection to Level III and one with a DS3 to UUnet. We use BPG to advertise our routing to the ISP's and up until now I have used HSRP to provide failover for outbound traffic to take UUnet as primary and LVLIII as backup. We have been reading...
