NIC Teaming - How should the network see them?
We are in the process of teaming the NICs on all of our PowerEdge 17xx, 26xx, 28xx and 29xx series servers and have noticed an interesting situation when scanning the network.
All servers are running Server 2003.
All NIC are imbedded.
All virtual...
Environment:
Windows XP clients and Windows Server 2003 Active directory infrastructure.
Problem:
After logging on, users' desktops will not load. The PC just sits there with the blue background. The logon scripts do not run.
Ctrl-Alt-Del works.
Logging off and then back on will cause the...
Got a server (Dell PE350) from our HQ with two IDE HDDs.
Windows 2000 Server is installed and the drives are mirrored in windows using the disk manager.
One of the drives is failing. It will go offline then we reactivate it and it comes back for a few weeks.
How do we replace this drive?
Do...
Recently one of our LC2000s began having trouble with its NetRaid 1M Controller. We have gotten a spare from HP and will be replacing the Netraid controller. The HDDs have data on them and cannot lose it. Can someone point me in the direction of getting this new controller installed without...
OS = Windows 2000 Server
Environment = W2K AD
The server is running a few SQL DBs and serving files. Nothing spectacular. It had run fine when a member of our NT 4 domain. After moving most of our servers and workstations to AD, we disabled most of the accounts in the NT domain. Of course...
We have a support person who we'd like to be able to add Computers to the domain.
We do want this person to be able to access ADUC, but instead for them to call us to create the computer account.
Then They can simply add the computer to the domain by using the Change button on the Computer Name...
We have noticed that when requesting a meeting with someone, the calendar entries are readable.
You cannot open the items, but you can see the contents of the subject line with a mouse hover.
Is this the default action, and can it be changed on a global basis?
Is this an AD permissions issue...

Implementing AD with W2003.
When trying to add users in the security perms ona Windows 2000 Pro box that is a member of the domain, the root or enterprise level shows and all users from all domains are listed. This is not really a problem in XP as you can select a location, but in 2000 this...
Here is what I'd like to do:
Many, many applications have the ability to send mail via the SMTP server of your choice. I'd like to utilize this functionality.
We have mail server (Exchange 5.5), but I do not know if this will do what i need it to do in this regard, nor do i have access to much...
I am in need of another set of eyes on a rogue device I am seeing here on my network.
A treasure hunt can often be fun, but this one is just plain bothering me.
I noticed an oddity in our DHCP server. There is a device on our network that has been grabbing an IP (172.16.42.237) that has a...
We have a unix server (backup drive has failed) from which we need to be able to back up files.
We'd like to send these file via FTP to one of our W2K servers that has plenty of backup space.
My first idea was to set up a job in cron to run a script similar to this one that we run from another...

Please post here if you have a recommendation.

We are having trouble on some W2K Servers, W2K Pro and WinXP pro workstations with delayed network browsing. SOmetimes up to 15 seconds before the contents are displayed. All instances of this have mapped network drives.
Typically it is manifested as a delay in the contents of My Computer...
Is there a way to limit the addresses given out by the DHCP server to certain (know) machines? Of course we could do leases, but we have too many devices to even begin to start with that.
Or Can we block a particular machine (MAC addy) from getting an address?
We have an entirely HP environment for our network.
Running 2600, 4000, 4100, and 2500 series swithces.
We are debating on whether to buy the plus version of HP's Procurve manger.
Before we do so we want to find out one key peice of information.
Will we be able to track or find (via the PCM...

When i try to delete the folder of the account in Docs and settings i get a file in use error.
