My printer will only print one copy even when I select to multiple copies to be printed.

Running XP PRO. At startup all of the desktop icons are displayed then the system goes into a freeze for about a minute. Then the icons refresh and the system is ready to be used. I am assuming XP is timing out for some reason but why. TIA.
