During a recent application failure we found that 2 users had removed their $HOME/.sh_history file. We suspect it was these 2 users who caused the fault but we now have no way to prove it.
Obviously these users need write privilege or they can't write their command line history, and obviously...
I'm further tying down on our AIX 5.3 systems access to root. I'm going to create a new group containing the id's that will be allowed to su to root, with most other accounts on the system still being able to su to other accounts, just not root.
Obviously for this to work I have to add this...
I've created quite a simple script shell script to produce an output on when a user last logged in to one of our systems, an IBM p570 running AIX 5.3 TL10, or at least I've produced a script that isn't doing what I want it to...
It goes something like this.
For USER in `cat /etc/passwd | cut...
We have a need to create a copy of a production machine to perform some testing on.
The current production lpar is on a Power5 P570 running AIX 5.3 TL9. The machine we've been allocated is a Power6 P520.
We have mksysb's no problem at present, going to a seperate NIM server, but I'm aware...
Any suggestions on the best way to move some raw volumes?
While doing TL level upgrades I've come across an lpar that has 2 volume groups, rootvg and appvg, but a lot of raw volumes that should be in appvg are in the rootvg. Apparantly this was done as a short-term gap until appvg was expanded...
I've been asked to upgrade a server from AIX 5.3 TL8 SP3 to TL9 SP3.
On the box if I run oslevel -s I get 5300-08-03-0831
Oslevel -rl 5300-08 returns no issues
Lppchk -v then gives:
lppchk: The following filesets need to be installed or corrected to bring the system to a consistent state...
I've been tasked with upgrading one of our HACMP clusters to 5.5.
It's a 2 node cluster based on AIX 5.3 TL5 SP3, although I'm going to update that to TL8 SP3 this week. Current HACMP version is 5.3.
But I've been a bit stumped so far as to how this is done, because I can't find anywhere to...
Our sendmail server is called dunsdev
The official domain name is set as uk.aswatson.com
When sending mail to recipients such as joebloggs@email.com it gets routed to the relay server fine.
When sending mail to recipients such as joebloggs@uk.aswatson.com it gets kept locally where there's no...
I need help please.
I've got a VIO'd P570, on which one of the lpars is a NIM server. It was/is working when I inherited it as the previous 6 lpars were built using it.
I've created a new VIO profile which works fine (thanks to an earlier reply from p5wizard).
I've defined this new lpar in...
Ok, we have a 570 and I need to create a new lpar on it via the VIO server.
Using the HMC (v7) I highlighed the server, and from the menu went through Configuration, Create Logical Partition, AIX. It gave this new partition the id of 7. I've given it CPU, memory, network etc etc. Hostname is...
OK, anyone know if this can be done.
I have an AIX server which uses Sendmail to send mails if check scripts finds a problem. It has a domain set by the Dj entry such as:
Djuk.company.com
So, when an id sends a mail the recipient will see sender's such as:
root@uk.company.com...

Hi all
One of our customers has a number of AIX 5.3 TL9 lpars. Access is via ssh only, and by default I'd like to deny direct root access. People would log in as themselves before su'ing to root. Pretty standard stuff really.
This would be done in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file by enabling...
I've downloaded the latest TL via IBM which has arrived as a number of .bff files. I only want a couple of the packages within the TL. Is there a way of determining which .bff file an individual package is?
Thanks.
Hello again.
First thing first, I was 50/50 about whether to put this in an AIX forum or look for a monitoring forum, so apologies if you think this is in the wrong area.
Anyway.....
Our p570's are normally split into different lpars running AIX 5.3. These run Tivoli monitoring for problem...
Can anyone shed any light on what this is actually saying? I've been doing a search but can't find anything useful.

We've got a 2 node cluster using shared storage. Both nodes are AIX 5.3 using HACMP 5.3, and run in an active/active configuration with depots 1 and 2 running from node A and depots 3 and 4 running from node B. Each depot/group can fail to each node on error detection, with fallback being...
Further to an earlier question about adding users, can anyone advise on the best way to set multiple users passwords in a cluster?
If, for example, we have 100 users on a non-HACMP system, the command 'cat password_file | chpasswd' would work if the file password_file existed, containing the...
I've been given a list of 346 users to add to our system!
Joy!
Anyway, obviously it will be best to script this, made simpler by the fact they're all in the same group using the same shell etc etc. The only differences will be the id, uid, and home dir. I'm going to allocate uid's...
Hi
Can anyone tell me where the network configuration within a 2 node HACMP cluster would be kept?
Our HACMP person is off, and we have a 2 node cluster here that needs some changes. The 1st node is the production node, with the 2nd just being there for failover.
The problem is that all the...
