    error trying to install 16 bit programs on a computer upgraded to XP

    hello, i have been trying to add a UMAX scanner to a Compaq presario that was upgraded from ME to XP with service pack II. I get a message saying "unable to install 16 bit program" UMAX support said not there problem? Microsoft? Any input on this would be great! thanks gavinbr
