Here's my situation...
I have a Dell Lattitude C610 dual-booting XP and RH8.0. This laptop has a PCtel modem in it (which I got the drivers for at http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/pctel-linux/) and finally got the modem functional.
My question is, what is the best program to use for dial-up...
I've got a rather simple Red Hat system that when it was built, it was only built with around 72MB of swap. Only two other partitions on system, / and /boot. Was wondering if it is possible to decrease / and add that extra space without having to rebuild.
Thanks in advance,
J
K I'm running Solaris 9 and using Netscape 4.78 on an Ultra 60. I go to a web site that has some sort of Java applet on it, and I can't freakin view it. No errors or anything, I just cant see it. Is there something I need to download or something to get it to work? I have had people ask me...
Hello. In my home directory, I have a .bash_profile, and a .bashrc. The .bashrc doesn't contain much, but the bash_profile contains all my paths and other stuff in the format that you would see in a regular .profile. How is it that when I log in, it seems as though it reads the custom prompt...
Hello,
I am just curious to see how many of you all use this product. I do, but I have no one to talk about it to and I have some questions. But no forum for it is on here.
Thanks in advance,
Josh

Hello all,
Does anyone know the difference in the two grep commands I found on Solaris 8?
/usr/bin/grep
/usr/xpg4/bin/grep
Is /usr/xpg4/bin/grep only included with Solaris 8?
Thanks in advance,
Josh
Hello,
I am currently running NIS on a small network. I am not too happy with NIS and I heard that LDAP is a replacement and better in a lot of ways. Has anyone configured LDAP on their servers? Had any problems? Where is a good place to go to find out exactly how people are configuring it...
Hey all,
I just took out around 45 tapes and replaced them with new media. Inventoried the robot and all seemed well. I have one question though...
On the available_media script, it shows the new tapes as being available, but it also continues to show the old media that I had just taken out...
Hello all.
I am in the process of removing DLT tapes out of a Sun L11000 tape robot. What is the correct way to do this so that all the DBs and configuration is up to date? Also, how can I eject more that one tape at a time? Turns out I've got around 70 full tapes...this could take years...
Hey all,
I am going to have to change my hostname to match up with my DNS name (long story thanks to our wonderful network folks giving us the wrong name). I know the easiest way in Solaris is to run sys-unconfig and change through there, but I also run Veritas applications (Volume Mgr...

I've heard several opinions on this and would like a straight forward answer before I go throw money away on books i don't need?
Basically, what I need are the same functions of NIS (i.e. user maint, etc) but NIS doesn't seem to go well for me when it comes to switching to slave.
Thanks in...
I'm getting this error in /var/adm/messages:
Jan 30 18:08:57 hostname snmpdx: community check() : bad community from IP.add.res.s
Jan 30 18:08:57 hostname snmpdx: session_open() failed for a pdu received from IP.add.res.s.45687
The IP stays the same. Usually repeats about 5-6 more times...
Why is a sun fire 280R drastically cheaper than a Sun Enterprise 220R even though the specs for the Fire are better than the E220R?
Anyone worked with these Fire servers before?
Thanks for the input.

Hello all,
I have a Sun E4500 server on an ATM backbone. I have that server attached to an APC Matrix UPS and I installed a web/snmp management card in the UPS. My questions are, are there going to be any conflicts with the two network interfaces up? Is a crossover cable my answer? And the...
