I am seeing a "new" spyware, Favoriteman, that is a bit devious. I understand that anything less than a complete uninstall will enable it to rebuild. Does anyone know of a utility to auto remove Favoriteman? Or the best manual procedure. Thanks.
I am trying to build another W2K server (stand alone, new domain). The only difference I know of between now and the last time I built a working W2K server is XPSP2. I am trying to add XP machines to the Windows 2000 domain (bare bones, fresh install server, nothing fancy) but I get this error...
The last time I used mmc (from Start-->Run-->mmc) it was there and worked fine. Somehow, something has happened to prevent this method from opening mmc. I can, however, go into System32 and open it from there. Can anyone tell me what might have happened, if it is a sign of impending doom, and...
The DVD drive and DVD burner are not showing up under My Computer on a system running Win XP Pro.
Under Device Manager both DVD drives appear with Yellow ! and the message:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or...
I have XP Pro SP2 machines logging into a W2K domain. Many users log into each machine. It seems huge amounts of data are stored for each user locally. Is there a relatively fast way to delete all that junk at once?
I am not a script writer, but if someone thinks a script is the way to go...
Just had this error pop up today. I cycle power, clear things out, and try to print again. Same error occurs. It sounds as though some moving part (fuser assembley?) is having trouble moving just before printer stops cold and spits out error code. If you can point me in the right direction...
I am on a LAN. I would like to put two NICs into one XP Pro machine (a host) and have another XP Pro machine (a client) connect to the LAN (Internet) through that host machine. I have tried a bunch of things, i.e., crossover cable, turning off firewalls, etc. But I cannot quite get it. I...
We have a bare bones Netfinity 5500 M20 with one CPU and one SCSI hard drive (it's kind of a trainer). Yesterday, the BIOS was flashed, and the system "died" on reboot. I think it was flashed with the BIOS from a newer model 5500.
Anyway, on reboot, it performs the following steps:
o the...
Just got an email from Microsoft saying that the eopen on the volume license we bought for Office XP is going to expire in less than 90 days. What is it?
I have to make sure that our software is completely legal. I'm hoping that the eopen thing can be ignored because it is just technical...
I also posted this in Windows XP. Hope that is not a violation.
I have Windows XP Pro machines in a W2K domain. I installed Dreamweaver Studio MX on a couple of the XP machines. I have a lot of users that can sit down at one of those machines and log into the W2K domain. They can use any of...

I'm trying to get up to speed. Just installed Dreamweaver Studio MX 2004 but know very little about it. I printed out the help topics and am reading them. I would really appreciate any links to material about learning Dreamweaver. Thank you.
I know nothing about ActiveX Controls.
I recently went into the chat section of an MSN Group and instantly got a download (pending a "Smiley Face") for MSN Chat. The XP SP2 pop-up blocker displayed "click here to download ActiveX Control for MSN Chat 9.2.310.2401". Which I did. If I am not...
When logged in as a regular user (through nis and nfs) at a workstation and trying to change password with yppasswd, the following error message occurs:
yppasswd: yppasswdd not running on NIS master host
If I go to the nis server and use this command:
chkconfig --list yppasswdd
it indicates...
I have two folders that should be identical but are not. (It's my fault, I was sloppy.) I am trying to sync them up again. I cannot just delete one and replace it with the other because I don't know what is different about them.
They have the exact same subfolders, but one of the two folders...
I do not know anything about Apple computers (nothing to brag about, just the reality). I have a Mac IIci that I need to wipe and get rid of. The software is evidently loaded fine on the h/d. I do not have any software CDs for this machine (nor an Apple floppy).
How can I take what I have...
I often clear out my Temporary Internet Files folder (several times a day). Yesterday, the folder was empty, which was obviously strange. I opened several browser (I.E. 6) windows and then checked again. The Temporary Internet Files folder was still empty.
After a lot of searching and...
It seems Red Hat used to prompt the installer to make an emergency boot disk, but with Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS v3, I did not get that prompt. So, how do I make an emergency boot disk? Is there a GUI to do so or a command? Thank you.
