    Everything working except incoming mail

Internal mail works, sending external mail works, but all incoming external mail produces an Action: failed Status: 5.0.0 error So I telnetted in and RCPT'd to an account and it validated, but sent a Status: 5.0.0 error back to the external account. I have gone through everything I can think...

    Access 2000 as frontend

I know this is an 'old chestnut', but I have been trying to add an ODBC connector for MySQL frpm mysql.com. It downloaded and installed correctly, but when I came to configure it, the dialogue looked different from the picture on mysql.com help page. I figured it had just changed and made a best...

'Known' bug stops owa with sbs4.5

I've had a client contact me who has had Outlook Web Access installed on their NT4 (SBS) box. It keeps on falling over and the installation company says it is down to a known bug in IIS which often crashes when OWA is accessed and they can't fix it. This makes it completely unusable. Anyone...

Since you have to open up port 3389 on a firewall or NAT'ed router, how much security is there to prevent unauthorised access?

IE6 tries to connect with udp port

In trying to lock down ZoneAlarm Pro, I selected Internet Explorer 6 and only allowed the regular http ports. When I started IE it tried to connect with UDP port 1728, 1730 and 1735. I can't imagine why, they're not normally assigned, my McAfee AV is right up to date and Moosoft Trojan scanner...

Hi chaps, Here's the thing. I have a client running a network with a Win2000 server and Win9x clients, a third-party mail server (NetMailshar), and using OE5.5 mail clients. All is well, but they want a centralised address book on the server so updates can be made automatically )upgrading to...

    IE6 and cookies

I have been having a problem accessing the Mcafee site, and I think I may have found out why, but I'd appreciate some input, and if possible a resolution. When you first log into the site the progress bar keeps going and nothing happens. I think a cookie is attempted to be accessed, but since...

Slow hard drive - OS or hardware problem?

I recently upgraded my m/b to PIII 933, but used the same three disk drives. It all worked, but today the E drive is taking ages to do anything. There are no conflicts in device manager and Norton Disk Doctor reports no errors. This is the fastest and newest of the three. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi Guys I thought long and hard about posting this 'cos I know this is a really serious Tech site, but I was sent this, IMHO it's a little too close to reality, but click on the Watch this Movie link, and try clicking on some of the 'Windows' buttons. If this is not an appropriate post, I...

    How does Windows cache passwords?

This question comes from another thread615-127419 discussing the function of the pwl file. I know it's for user passwords, etc but is it used by IE for instance to cache internet passwords? If it is, how are passwords cached if there is no pwl file, is there another file used? I know some stuff...

How to reset boot up screen size?

I don't know whether this is a hardware or a driver problem, but in the process of getting an All-in-Wonder Pro to output video to a VCR, the vertical refresh rate for all the system stuff and the Windows startup graphic, has got set to 30Hz, leaving about 60% of the screen being used. I have...

    NAV and Win2K server

Having read the helpful Anti-virus recom. thread, I have a question. A site I work with is installing a Win2K server for a 20 Win9x workstation network. The nature of the organisation is that a decision on network wide AV may take a little time. So.. to cover the server immediately, are there...
