NW3.12 sys volumn and NW volumn

I have a 18G SCSI HD with NW3.12, but only the first 8G is available in SYS volumn. I read in the forum and looks like I can create a netware volumn above the 8G. I want to know what is the different between Sys volumn and the netware Volumn. Thank you.
