We have 2 ESX 3.5 hosts with VMs stored on a SAN.
We use Netbackup as our backup software.
Are there ways to set up the VMWare host so that our backup server can just copy the VM files as if it is copying from a normal file system? Or is that not possible?
We are just trying to figure out...
We are migrating from Exchange 2003 to 2007. We use SSL offloading, so the 2003 server is configured to use http only and the encryption is done by another device. This means we can hit the 2003 server internally using http instead of https.
Well I'm trying to set up the same thing for 2007...
We have just begun tinkering with VMWare. We have 2 servers running ESX 3.5
We put up some test VMs and then deleted them, but I notice the snapshots are still there. Our disk space is getting low and I tried to delete the snapshots, but it gives an error. How to I get rid of snapshots I...
I have a user who has a strange issue. We have 2 email domains so that joe_user@domain1.com and joe_user@domain2.com come to the same person.
Well, with this user, the exchange server is tacking on an extra ending to some of her received email. For instance, someone in the organization sent...
I restored a message store to the RSG from our Netbackup server and it said everything went fine. I mounted the store and it gave a warning, but mounted fine.
My question is..... aren't mailboxes supposed to show up under that store? Absolutely nothing shows up underneath it, so how am I...
We have 5 users that use a departmental mailbox (call it "HR" mailbox to make it easy) that receives a lot of mail.
Due to the fact that all of them move mail from their personal mailbox into the HR mailbox, they all have it added as a secondary mailbox on the left in their main outlook...
We use Outlook 2007 on Exchange 2003 Server.
We used the AutoAccept agent to set up our resources. They are configured to decline conflicting meetings. But this assumes you schedule a room correctly.
Problem is, if someone just opens up the calendar of a resource and double clicks on a time...
We are trying to test backup and recovery for our Exchange 2003 server. So as a test, I go into Backup and restore mode and select our smallest Message store (to make the test as quick as possible). I also select the log files.
I tell it to restore to Microsoft Information Store:\RSG\
on our...

We are doing some DR testing and documentation, and I was wondering if anyone had some information or documents that would say what I need for a DR with Netbackup.
Suppose I lost everything but my backup tapes. Could I snag another LTO4 system from dell that is identical to ours and throw...
Currently our laptop users keep their documents on their local machine. When they log into the network, a 3rd party program copies any changes to a backup location on the server. (to their personal folder, basically)
Is there a way to do this with Group Policy? Or do we have to switch to...
We have a DeskJet 6980 setup on a network that has been printing fine. Problem is, the server it is shared on is going away.
So I re-created it exactly the same on a new print server. Oddly enough, when I printed a test page, it just continues to print the same page over and over again. I...
We are running NB 6.5 on a Windows 2003 Standard server and the backups are running at 10-20MB/s. The LTO4 drives are rated at 136MB/s, so I assume I should be getting 80-90MB/s or so.
I was just wondering what speeds other people are getting with NB 6.5 and LTO4.
(for those who are curious...
We have two 2003 AD domains, I'll call them Domain1 and Domain2.
Domain1 has been around forever and it is a mess. Group structure, permissions, group policy, AD, etc. all need to be re-worked. It is in mixed mode. Rather than continually upgrading and bandaging this old beast, we decided to...
I have a question I'm having trouble finding solid answers to.
Let's say a Network/System admin decides some aspect of his companies network is extremely unsafe and leaves their business open to attack. He requests the money/resources/permission to fix this from his superiors and the superiors...
I want to change some group policy settings for Outlook/Exchange. I can't seem to find where to change them. I'm looking at the default domain policy on one of our DC's. The instructions I have say there should be a folder called "Microsoft Office Outlook 2003" under User...
For reasons not worth explaining, we are trying to do away with one of our domains, so we'll be moving 300-400 users from one domain into another one. Both are 2003 domains.
I was just wondering if anyone could recommend some tools to get this done. Tools for transferring user accounts on the...
I am running a batch file on 2003 Server (not the DC) to do some backups. If I run as a domain admin account, it runs fine. If I run it as a domain user, it fails.
So I tried slowly adding rights to that domain user to see what rights were failing and it still never worked. Even when the...
I'm looking at taking 70-221 soon and I've used transcenders before, but they are just so expensive. I know there are loads of companies out there that offer downloadable practice exams. Are there any that are just about as good but a lot cheaper? I don't have $120 to shell out to study for...
Is there a way to check open files on the server without walking to the server itself? I mean, from a workstation or something.
Something simple I mean, that doesn't require me to set up too much on the server or workstation.
