    Deselecting object within a selection group

    I think my question is a simple one: If you select a group of objects, but there is an object or two within the group that you would like to de-select, how would you do it? Is there a way to pick those unwanted objects and deselect them, so you can perform a command on all the remaining objects?

    deleting empty layers

    Can someone explain, in simple terms, why some layers cannot be deleted or purged? If there are no visible objects on a layer, why can't the layer be deleted if it is a layer that you created yourself? Can layers be hidden on the layer manager if they cannot be deleted?
