Apparently my WMI is corrupt and is causing errors logging onto some servers within my games.
So before I perform a repair installation, I have a few questions:
1) Is there another way to repair WMI?
2) How long does a repair "In-place install" take?
3) After a Repair Install, do you...
Yesterday my PC worked perfectly fine.
Then I turned it on this morning, and just after the "Windows Lodaing" screen disappeared, it restarted. And then again, and again at the same point.
Then I tried Last Known Good Config. - didnt work the first time, but it did the second time...
I have a shortcut in the "Quick Launch" Bar. It's a shortcut to a playlist file, so when I click on it, it plays it in Windows Media Player.
I set it to "Start Minimised"....but it doesn't. It just starts normally.
Why won't it work? Is there a way around it?
I just got a new HS+Fan for my AMD Athlon 1.2GHz (200MHz FSB).
It was HUGE when i opened the box - twice as big as my current one! It fitted..just. It is almost literrally resting against the PSU. This means that the CPU temp (according to "SpeedFan") is now about 5oC hotter...
Whenever I click "empty recycle bin" it asks if I am sure that i want to delete "Windows". Hmmm....If I say yes, i hear tge 'crunching' sound of the recycling bin emptying - but nothing happens.
Is there some sort of virus that does this or spyware perhaps.
I ran AdAware...
I am an administrator on my Home PC (Windows XP Pro) with 3 Limited Users (I dont want other family memebers messing about with setttings as they used to do in Windows 98).

My PC freezes after being on for a few hours, when I'm on the internet or something. Usually freezes after 30mins playing a game.
This used to happen like once every 3 months....since I upgraded my CPU it happens all the time.

I want to convert a 19GB Drive to NTFS.
I understand that if using the convert utility built-in with Windows XP, then it'll be forced to use 512Bytes because the FAT32 partition will not be aligned to 4K Clusters (it's currently 16KB clusters).
So, is there a utility to align it to 4K...
After reformatting and reinstalling XP Pro, my bootup is 1:15 pre-BootVis Optimisation, 1:03 after.
Hoever, I can get this to under 45s if there was no NIC Delay. Is it possible to eliminate/reduce this NIC Delay (for Blueyonder Boradband Cable Internet)?? What is it for?
AVG Anti-Virus 6 says that I have a worm in the file DLLHOST which is in C:\Windows\System32 (Windows XP Pro - SP1a).

Can I convert the boot (C:) drive to NTFS and not affect Windows XP (on E: - FAT32)?? Will it stop booting or will it just be fine?
P.S. I'm using Partition Magic 8.

What files are the ones that MUST be kept, that are necessary for bootup?

In Office XP, the most annoying "feature" is the "Draw Here" bos that appears when you click on a drawing item (e.g. Text Box, Arrow, Circle etc.). Why the hell would I want to draw in a huge box and then move it when I can just draw it wherever I want??
How the hell do I...
According to my ISP, Blueyonder, the internet will only work on certain NICs - so if u install a new NIC, the "MAC" address of this NIC must be registered before it can be used.
If I reformat and reinstall Windows XP Pro (for complicated reasons), will the MAC address for my NIC card...

Checkdisk won't run (it says it needs access to all windows files - try rebooting). Rebooting does nothing.
Also, occasionally (ie. once a week) Windows checks all drives for errors because they are "Drity" on startup? What does this mean?? How can I get checkdisk to run in Windows?
