    how to tell if RAM chip is faulty?

    I have run several ram Diagnostic tools and they all state the chip is fine. Yet it is only registering as 256, when 512 is even printed ON THE BOARD?! Surely the chip must be faulty, but can it be fixed? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Just put together a new system, and the memory is registering at 256 instead of 512! Its a DDR 2700 at 333 (single chip). The motherboards an MSI KT4V (MS-6712) AMD 2600 (2.83Gig) The chip registered fine to start with, then I had probs with my graphics card and switched to an MSI NVidia...
