We're upgrading the firmware on our AIX machines. We have 2 7017 S85's, a 7026-6H1 and a 7026-H80.
We are going to upgrade the OS to AIX 5.2, so we need to update teh firmware. Of course, we didn't keep the old binaries of the firmware from before. We don't need it yet, but to be safe, I'd...
We're installing 10/100/1000 NIC cards on a few machines. The install guide says that AIX 5L for POWER version 5.1.35 with ML 03 or later is a pre-req. For the dual port card, the pre-req is AIX 5L for POWER version 5.1.0 ML 04 or later.
I always refered to our OS as AIX 5.1 ML06 (from...
Hi all, I hope someone can help me with this. I've never been able to do this, and it would be very helpful now.
I need this script to give me the serial number of a known vpath. My problem, is the vpath I can grep for, is on one line, but the SERIAL #, is on the line below it. I need to...
This has been bugging me for a while. Whenever a user is idle for a while (not sure how long, this time over an hour), the response to the "w" command is very slow. If I kill their session, it runs fast like normal. Anyone know why this is? Here's an example:
I added the line numbers to...
We just migrated our production servers from AIX 4.3.3 to 5.1. It worked ok on the test machines, but we had a severe problem on production. We've not been able to figure out what happened (nor has IBM). Here's our systems, a timeline of events, and the problem will follow.

Can you use an EMC device as a boot device? Basically, it would contain rootvg and primary paging. I've always been told this was a bad idea. We are getting some new machines, and "they" want to do this.
So, does IBM now support and approve of this? If not, why?
Thanks
Tim
We are upgrading our AIX 4.3.3 severs to AIX 5.1. Our current version of SDD is at 1.3.3.6 (ibmSdd_433.rte). A couple basic questions: Do we have to upgrade the SDD (to 1.5)? If so, what are the basic steps?
I've just started going over the user guide for the SDD, and it talks about...
AIX recommends not to put any paging spaces on ESS disks. Why is that exactly? On a couple machines I just inherited, there are secondary paging spaces on the ESS. The software vendor is telling us we must move them to internal disks (which we don't have), 2 weeks before a major deadline...
