I keep being unable to get my machine (athlon 2500, xp Pro 512 mb ram), to load windows, wont load last known good config, or any safe modes. Shows XP loading screen then jumps past a blue screen too quick to read it back to the black preload screen which asks for normal load, LKGC or safe...
For no reason I can ascertain, my CPU runs up to 100% for the media player when I try to play a movie file. I reinstalled WMP but it happens with QT player as well, I also reinstalled the video card drivers (GeForce 6600)but still can't play movie files. Was fine 3 days ago. Not sure how to...
I've got BEDPro 4.5 running on a Win2kPro network and experience significant backup job time fluctuations. eg one day the job takes 8 min & for the next 4 days 15 min. When running the backup I run no other programs on the backup software resident machine or the network. The amount of data...
I just loaded XP Pro onto a new system with an Athlon 2500 chip & compatible mbd, GeForce 5200 Vcard, 512 mhz of 400 mhz ddr ram and windows will only load into safe mode. In fact, since the first load, device manager is blank. Ideas?
I have a new WinXPPro system with a NTFS formatted hard drive. I'd like to add a 40GB HD which is formatted FAT32. Will I encounter problems? If they can be overcome, how?
Thanks a lot.
Hi, I think I need to reinstall my win98se and would like to know exactly which directories are replaced/deleted in the process so I can know what I need to move to any "safe" directories in DOS in order not to lose data I want to keep.
I am hoping (praying), of course, I can save...
Hi I have three 1ghz machines each with 128 MB of Ram running a Win2kPro network. I keep them reasonably well maintained (defraged, SP4) and we have not added lots of new software. Should I expect performance (speed) to deteriorate over time? Initially 128 MB seemed fine for our purposes, now...
In a Win2KPro network I have installed a local printer on one of the machines (lpt1) and when I try to print to it the job comes out on lpt1 on another machine on the network. That printer is not even listed as a network or shared printer in the printers folder of the first computer. Any idea...
When I schedule a NAV scan, I'm lucky if I can get it to run in the background (shown as a process in the task manager, but not an application) - likewise when I test the scheduler with calc.exe. Strangely, the liveupdate component of NAV is working via the scheduler.
Very hard to find fixes...
I am finding the Task Schedulers on all three Win2K machines on my network (2 SP4, 1 SP3) are failing to work properly. In some cases it will not run a task at all and show no logged record of it having attempted to, in others it will try and fail to run the program saying the username or...
Win2K Pro - NAV 2002, subscription status is ok into '04. The following msg is from the task scheduler error log:
The attempt to log on to the account associated with the task failed, therefore, the task did not run. The specific error is:

Hi, we had a new motherboard installed in a Win2KPro (866 mhz - 128 MB ram)machine which necessitated reinstalling some new drivers for a network card (put back into different PCI slot, I think). Now different media players crash or hang with great frequency. Tried reinstalling sound card...
Hi, we had a new motherboard installed in a Win2KPro machine which necessitated reinstalling some new drivers etc. Now different media players crash or hang with great frequency. Troubleshooting advice appreciated.
Twice in the past two days I've had this err msg on rebooting (after system hangs):
0x000000ca (0x00000003, 0xfcd2e30, 0xe154b168, 0x00000004)
Advice on how to interpret this would be appreciated!
I had an issue last wk. with an apparent conflict between an antivirus plugin in network ADSL sharing software (Wingate) and NAV's email scanning which resulted in all sorts of grief which was (largely) relieved by a "last known good configuration" restoration. However, the system has...
In one of my Win2K machines, no 16 bit app will load correctly without ignoring a .pif file causing a registry error in System\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. It says the Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. In that registry location there is a default value...
What is the best solution for sharing ADSL over a Win2K Pro network? Using the NAT feature of RRAS (with a router I presume) and the WinGate software option are being considered. I'd appreciate feedback on the pros and cons of these and other options.
Thanks.
After a bit of a strange crash (apparent conflict of antivirus pgms) and a "last known good configuration" restore in my Win 2K Pro network server, the DOS-based inventory/POS software we run on the server only opens when choosing "ignore" to a warning which says the Virtual...
