I really can’t believe that Microsoft would not provide some basic functionality in Exchange to automatically add an email disclaimer to every external email. I run Exchange 2003 SP2. Am I wrong? If so, could someone please point me in the right direction.
John
We use ISA 2000 and are shortly moving to ISA 2004. We use Explorer 6.0 across our network with the odd exception now using explorer 7.0.
Currently may users login to Windows using a low level generic login (such as reception desks) but to achieve any accountability for the internet they have...
I’m not an expert on IIS by any means but have never really had any config problems. I have an existing intranet on IIS 5 on a Windows 2000 server and I use a virtual folder on a standard network share to store files that users pull up. Files security is based standard domain user groups. This...
Brief story. Had an Exchange 2003 server running on Windows 2000 for a few years. Never managed to send mail via DNS, only SmartHost. OS on server started to die so migrated Exchange to a temp server running a fresh install of Windows 2003. All worked well and server even sent via DNS.
Just...
I have a couple of servers running Windows 2003 R2 and the winver command on both shows:
Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition. Version 5.2 R2 Build 3790.srv03_sp1_rtm.050324-1447 – Service Pack 1)
However I’ve just purchased a slightly later release of R2 (called R2a on the box) and built...
I have an ISA 2000 servr with an exchange server sitting inside on a private IP address. All works fine. I’m upgrading to ISA 2004 but when I change the gateway address of the exchange server to that of the ISA 2004, the mail server can’t ping in either ip address or FQDN.
I have a rule...
Hi,
To replace a failing exchanger server, we added a new server into the domain and moved all the mailboxes, public folders etc., all according to a Microsoft work guide and all seemed to go well. We’ve now uninstalled the old exchange server and the new one (after a restart) is holding it’s...
Most of our users are required to authenticate when using the internet via our ISA 2K4 server. But I have a couple of users who require the internet without any authentication request (mainly due to banking and payroll software). Is this possible?
I tried to create an additional internal...
Does anyone know of a simple and inexpensive way to manage USB devices? I know that Vista now appears to have this build it and assuming it's managed in Vista via GP's, I wondered if it would be possible to uses these GP's in XP. Has anyone played around this?
Regards,
John
We have a standard domain and many certain users are restricted to logging on to computers only within their departments. Just to explain, we also have users that have a windows login for internet access via an ISA server and that ISA server must be in the 'Log On To' list of these users. This...
Hi,
I need to re-direct the desktop folder for a shared Windows login and I want to do this via Group Policies. I’ve made the necessary changes in User Configuration > Folder Redirection > Desktop and have pointed it to a shared folder on a network share with ‘everyone access’. The workstation...
Does anyone know if you can hide the ‘Printers and Faxes' from the start menu via Group Policies? I know you can hide it manually via the Start Menu properties, but that's not really a suitable option. I searched and searched but cannot find the GP - I can't believe Microsoft have overlooked it...
I use ISA 2K as a firewall and proxy server. All users need to enter their login credentials to access the internet and I understand that this is controlled in the Outgoing Web Requests listener section where I have selected ‘Basic Authentication’. I need users to add their credentials because...
Does anyone know much about Opportunistic Locking? We run a large ACT database and it’s always been dog slow. The database and accompanying files reside on a W2K SP4 server while the workstations are all XP SP2. Act says that we should turn off Opportunistic Locking on the server and...
I’m trying to configure my Windows 2K AD server to manage Windows XP SP2 Firewall ports via GPs but I’m not having much luck. I’ve copied the system.adm file from a Windows XP SP2 computer and successfully installed it on my Windows 2000 server and it seems to partially work but not fully. The...
Like many networks, we started with just one AD server (a PDC Emulator I guess), but as time went on, we’ve added a couple of others to provide some resilience. However, we recently decommissioned our first ever domain controller (via the dcpromo route) and have re-built the unit with a...
I know this is really a hardware question, but I'm sure someone can shed some light. I've just reconfigured an old Dell 2400 with Windows 2K SP4. I'm running a standard PERC 2/si RAID with updated BIOS firmware and Windows drivers. When the computer is running, only two disks appear to have...
We use ISA 2K and have exchange 2K3 running on an internal server. I currently send mail via a smart-host but need to change to sending via dns. Trouble is, none of our internal computers/servers can resolve external dns queries. We can all ping ip addresses externally just fine, but not with a...
We have just finished moving many users from an old W2K file server to a new W2K file server. For most users, the move has been transparent (done via GP's etc.) but some users now say their Excel Macros don't work (just some, not all). They don't include any links at all but just simple data...
Windows XP creates it’s own stupid folders such ‘My Pictures, My Music & My ebooks’ which when you map My Docs to a shared network resource, becomes very annoying. I have also been asked to stop users creating folders in the network share that My Docs points to.
The only way I know to do this...
