    Shutdown during POST

    I attempted to boot my PC after I had changed a noisy CPU fan,the fan did stop for about 2 seconds, there was one long beep during the post after which the PC shut down, nothing is visible on the monitor.The BIOS is Award. Is my CPU fried ?

    NTVDM CPU Illegal Instruction

    Linney, FYI I finally got to the bottom of this, The error "16 bit DOS subsystem NTVDM CPU illegal instruction" was being generated by a faulty CPU. This has been replaced, now the PC works perfectly. Thanks for your input in helping me solve this problem.

    Boot floppy

    When attempting to boot to a floppy I receive the following error message " error reading partition table drive 01 sector 0 Interrupt divide by zero stack etc ...." does this indicate a HDD fault ?
